Pad Size - ATK Database Project

For quite a while now, I've thought it'd be quite handy to have a comprehensive pad size-ATK database. I'm one of the many who doesn't live anywhere near a decent hockey shop, and therefore doesn't have the opportunity to try on pads before buying them from an online store, eBay, or the GSBB classifieds.

I've decided to get the ball rolling, but of course I need a lot of help. I've scoured all of the posts mentioning "ATK" and recorded whatever useful information I could find. I've also listed as many manufacturers and models as my memory and patience would allow.

Of course, the list is woefully incomplete, but with a 30-second effort from as many GSBBers as possible, it could become quite a useful reference.

If anyone else thinks this is a good idea, please contribute whatever information you can. May I suggest a few guidelines:
  1. Please limit your entries to first-hand knowledge. This means pads you own or have at least tried on, that fit your ATK (either now or at the time).
  2. Please do not quote the initial post. Just add your pertinent info, and I'll update the list manually. This way, we won't have an insanely long thread.
  3. If you don't see a brand or model, feel free to add it, if you feel it's useful.
  4. If your make, model, size and ATK are identical to a pre-existing entry, please post your information anyway. I'll make a note of it, e.g. 36 - 18.5(2).
  5. Please take this list for what it is - a list of pads, pad sizes, and the ATKs of people who wear them. Be sensible about how you use the information. There will be some variance, especially when you consider things like pad settling/shrinkage, adjustable knee locks, and sometimes, people wearing the wrong size.

To obtain your ATK (ankle-to-knee) measurement, begin bare- or sock-footed. Sit down, and bend your knee forward slightly. With a tape measure, measure from the center of your inside ankle bone to the front center of your knee cap, wrapping around a little. That's your ATK.

Any suggestions are more than welcome.

Here we go... the

My ATK 17.5 - I have *not* included +x thigh rise sizes, partly because I don't remember, and partly because that does not (IMO) have much to do with sizing pads. As long as the knee is in the right place, the thigh rise can be damn near anything you like.

Tried on:

Bauer Supreme Pro - 35"
CCM Vector 6.0 - 33"
Sherwood C-5 - 34" (fit a bit big)
Sherwood C-8 & C-10 - 33" (fit a bit small) or 34" (fit a bit big)
Sherwood 9980 - 33"
Vaughan Velocity 2 - 35"

Used:
Bauer Supreme Pro ??? (Aubin's SE with the rounded/flattened boot) - 35"

P.S. Great idea. I don't even think there needs to be a high level of precision. As more information comes in, we should have a very clear *range* of ATKs with a correlated range of pad sizes. Thus, someone with an 18" ATK will know that Pad X in a 34" will fit small on them, and X Pad in a 35" will fit a little big.
