Hasek Spec Pro Size Brown JB-2000 Pics and Comparison to stock Brown

So, I am in love with Brown chest pads, and since I'm not sure how long Mr. Brown is going to be making them, I thought I should get a Pro Spec one while I can just in case I have to conform to the sizing rules. And like most of you I enjoy getting new stuff. I also remembered someone asking about a comparison between the pro spec 2000 pad, and the stock 2000 pad...unfortunately there aren't too many places that even have Brown gear, much less a pro-sized AND a stock model.

Here are the chest pads side by side. As you can see, there's not a huge difference at all. I wear a XXL and the only real size difference is the width of the shoulder floaters (maybe 3/4" difference), and the height of the arms of the elbow floaters (visible in the photo below). The elbow height makes for the Pro Spec unit being a little less pliable than the stock, something that should loosen up over time. Note that I also requested Hasek specs, meaning the elbow floaters are cut a little differently, the forearms are angled slightly. Also, the entire unit is heavier, probably a combination of the leather wear material on the edges of the elbows/shoulders, the heavier grade white cordura, and overall a more beefed up interior padding(it seems to me by testing the blocks). I had a forearm stinger in my stock unit practicing against NHLers...no more with this one. Not that I am complaining about a stinger, or that that prompted a new chest pad, just noting the fact. Also note that the added collar was a mistake and the collarbone floater is Hasek spec but he cuts it just like any sensible goalkeeper. Here's the elbow comparison:

Here's a couple photos of me wearing each unit...not much to say about these. Both units are comfy and fit the way I like, maybe a little longer in the forearms than some like but that's how I like it.

Note that the lack of leather on the floaters is a custom option to make this 2000 more like the older version of the 553.

This is the version of the Pro Spec one after I cut the collarbone floater. Note also that it came with sewn on logos but I cut those off since I prefer debadged equipment.

Anyway, I just wanted to post this since I remembered someone was interested.

Just as I suspected.

Not really much of a difference when comparing "broken in" units.

Thanks for that post.

I played with a guy who played pro with an old Heaton 5 Snow c/a & he got away with it b/c it was so broken in & compressed.

I have a 2100 & have used it for about 4 years now. Love the thing to death & I don't want to can it for anything.

Minus the 2000 model neck plate, those almost look like my JB503. The only difference is in the arm floaters. He seemed to have made them up and angled.

If the units weren't so expensive, i'd love to get a pro spec as well.

I was surprised earlier to see a white Vaughn C/A posted on here earlier today... now a second white C/A posted the very same day?!?! Are white C/A's making a comeback? Have they figured out how to stop them from going brown with mold over time?

The arm flaps are angled like this--the red shows where the floater would be if it weren't cut away, and the arrows are presumably how the cutaway is supposed to help the movement as far as ergonomics. It's a pretty small change and likely won't make too much of a difference, but that's what I gather the change is made for.

I'm doing some research on some brown c/a's and I came across this thread. Anyone know if this is still doable? For those who have this mod, do the hasek elbow floaters help with arm movement? I'm looking to get a pro-spec 2000 and researching possible mods.

Isn't the 2200 like that now? Seems like it.

Don't think the stock 2200 elbow floaters are angled quite like that. I'm talking to JB and he doesn't think the angled elbow floaters do anything... but he can still do it for an upcharge. I still like the idea of the angled arms... I know Dom's crazy but he knows his goaltending.... or did anyway :P

Sorry about that curious Brown users...I moved them in my photo account, here are the pictures once again.

UPDATE: John Brown is either cutting closer to the pattern or has thrown out the old slightly larger pattern because officially now stock and pro spec shoulder floaters are the exact same size when ordered.
