I use an eyewall 5 catch and I really can't compare it to a catch I have had in the past, except an oldie.
1. Cooper GM9 Durasoft
2. Boddom Catch
3. Forrester Pro return
4. Mckenney 755
5. BHG Eyewall 5
I would say the BHG feel most like my Forrester, similar to a Brians Older style catch, but it snaps nice.
I will not move to another anytime soon as it feels so nice for me. I Was interested in getting a 10, but speaking with Brian I did opt for the 5, and I am very happy with it to date.
Ever in Toronto , I'll let you try it out.

So I'm ready to take the plunge on a set of these, I've talked to Brian via email a couple of times already. Are there any mods that I absolutely should get? I understand the jenpro knee and calf wing are a must, anything else? I will be going with a single boot strap, and all leather straps. Does any one have pics of their BHG 10s in action?

Excellent to hear that you'll be joining the BHG ranks.
The one thing I've really been noticing on my 10s is that my straps are a bit short, I like a snug feeling pad, but a loose loose boot strap. At times, I feel the boot strap is too short, thus pulling on my skate.
My knee cradle is modified for an RBK style feel, yet it has a traditional velcro support strap.
You may not care, or may not use thighborads, but if you're picky about thighboards, ask Brian to use quick release buckles/clips on the straps, since the stock attachment method is a simple strap threaded through the buckle.
On ice pictures to follow

So is your knee set up like a Koho 580? thanks for the input on the thigh boards and the boot those are definately things that would bug me. Man May 22nd seems so far away, it's going to be tough waiting for these.

My new BHG Heaton 5 C&A remake. It's also NHL-spec. I didn't expect it to be white, which was a nice touch. If you notice in the second pic, the loop is on the inside of the unit. I liked this idea because I don't like to tuck in my C&A but this way I can still tie the unit down. In the first pic, the little white piece with a string attached was the neck protector that came attached to the C&A. I took it off though, as I tried on the C&A with my helmet on and it didn't allow me to look down.

Downfall: I'm not so sure what the 580 knee is like. I've never learned the finer details of Koho/RBK products
I am considering asking Mr Heaton about lengthening the straps tho. I still feel the boot strap is too short, hindering skate mobility. Maybe its all in my head, but I know my Itech 9.8s have a much longer boot strap, and my skates felt more "free" in those pads.
Jon: Keep the thread posted regarding your switch from a V2 to the H5 remake C/A
I'm considering doing the same. The BHG bug has bitten me, so I may be making changes in the C/A and catch glove department.

That unit looks wicked!
I'm kinda scared to buy a white c/a , just because it would show a lot of wear and tear (and sweat) .
It's great that he has the neck guards removeable, as I had to cut mine out when I got it, it just bugged me and seemed to bump into my chin all the time.

Jon, and other H5 remake users...are there thick foam side blocks protecting the elbows under the cups, as the original H5?

The more pics I see of the NHL spec Heaton C/A, the more I want one.

I don't know if I know what you're talking about as I never had the original H5. I will tell you that the elbows are very well protected in the unit though.
Mr_Phil, I tried the unit out today. The C&A is unbelievable. It is infinitely times more mobile than the V2 and SOOOOO much lighter. It also helps that the BHG unit was made exactly to my measurements. If you order one, Heaton will send you a questionaire about all the measurements involved in making a C&A to get you fitted correctly. Anyway, back on topic. The BHG C&A just seems to conform to your body whereas the V2 felt clingy. I don't know how to explain it, but I already like the BHG better than the V2.
chunkinstien, I didn't expect Heaton to make the C&A all white. It doesn't bother me though, I'll be wearing a jersey over it and I have my C&A and pants washed twice a season.

Check out the pics. Look closely at the elbows, that is what i mean. My JB unit has the same under the plastic panel.

If the H5 remake has the same elbow cups as the eyewall 5, it is a foam, covered with nylon. The elbows are very comfortable.
I'll check more tomorrow, as I just got off the ice, off to the second round of the playoffs!~

I will be seriously considering BHG as my next pad/glove set company when the gear size change comes around, since the Heaton 10's have been so famously liked by pro goalies still to this day, and from what I see on this thread, the service and quality is top-notch.
One question...
If I'm a Quebec-style butterfly goaltender with a wide butterfly and somewhat wide stance, when up, will these work as fine as I think?
I've used Litespeed 1's and RBK PS1's during my career, and have strayed from being an all out butterfly goalie to instead reacting to the shots and using my stick to direct the play and such.

That's kind of an oxymoron . Q goalies are known for a complete b-fly style game. I'm talking about the newer school of course ('95 up). I have the Pro Zs, the original E5 pad model Brian has, and they b-fly very well. Mind you, if i had a real good b-fly technic, it would help even more.
Kipper plays alot of b-fly and he's used the H10 couple years before switching to V2 and now V3.
Talk to the man. He has enough experience to school the whole lot of us.
