Would the measurment be taken from the inside twill piece or the total of all three together?
the bottom piece would be 12, that would be called layer 3, sleeves are 4

Was WCW Kronik: Brian Adams (aka WWF Krush) and Brian Clark (aka Wrath and WWF Adam Bomb) your favorite pro-wrestling tag-team?

PS: The smaller of those 2 is 6'5". LOL

Although the rulebook says 10" minimum on the back, no teams actually use 10" numbers, since it looks ridiculously small. Teams who use one-color jerseys use 12" backs and 4" sleeves. If you're going with two colors, go one size larger for the background color. For three colors, go one size smaller and one size larger.

Only a few teams still use 3" one-color lettering. 3.5" is quite common, and the Wings use 4" lettering, I believe.

I was maybe kinda thinking that to some extent. I have a jersey with 12'' three color twill numbers. They still look kinda of small when I look at other NHL and College numbers. The numbers on the back are about 11.75'' and the top twill layer just being a bit over 10''. I am currently getting a jersey made up so I'm thinking of asking to get 14'' numbers (3 layers) with the top now being about 12''. Good idea or still too small?

I did a little measuring of a few things I had upstairs. The back #1 Luongo jersey I've got posted in this thread, as well as a Theodore Habs kit (wonder why I never sewed that one one ) both measure about 12.25" overall (bottom layer), which each subsequent layer being about 1/4" shorter.

10" for any layer is way too small (unless you're doing a kids jersey) and I would think that 14" would be way too big - you might have problems fitting a nameplate in there.

Hope that helps.

So you think that is the norm for NHL 3 color twill numbers, about 12.25''?

Funny you should mention them, I actually bought a letter kit for my Flyers jersey from their web store (not ebay). I paid for UPS shipping, but they (claim to have) shipped a week late and sent USPS. The package never arrived. They offered to recut the letters and resend, which I also haven't seen yet. This was two weeks ago and I'm getting ready to file a paypal complaint. I'll definitely be PMing junior1cats once I get my money back for some proper lettering.

I should have added this pic again to show what I'm talking about for my current numbers. Maybe the numbers just look a bit small because it is a big jersey.

Can't we all be friends...
You guys both share a passion for jerseys so that should be a starting point for a long and lasting relationship.
Yes, I watched Dr. Phil today.
