Cooper Sk2000 Padding

I did a search on this an couldn't really find anything so...I just go an SK2000, but it fits too snug, especially in the forehead. I was thinking of just taking an Xacto knife and cutting some of the foam out to fit the shape of my noggin better. Does anyone know if Sportmask (Mage) sell padding that would fit this combo? Or has anybody have a better idea? Thanks for helping!

Have you tried adjusting it to it's maximum setting via the screws on the side of the helmet? Sk2000's come in 3 sizes. You may need a large. Also, the rear padding has cardboard where the padding is attached. You can cut the cardboard where the sides separate. This does not diminish the protection and helps alleviate the pressure. Hope that helps. Happy tending.

You could pm Shawn a.k.a. kicksave on the board. He can make you new foam that is not as thick.

just got new padding from him for my sk and my olie mask. padding was white. not sure if he has other colors. sk padding comes pre cut and ready to pop in to the helmet. much lighter and more comfy than the old padding!!!

I too am having trouble with my new SK 2000 being too snug. I used to wear one of these years ago, but I dont really remember how it fit. Now that I am getting my mask painted, I need to bring it out of retirement. How tight are these supposed to fit? I am going to try cutting the cardboard seam to alleviate some pressure. Any other advice for making the foam a better fit? The guy I bought it from said he put "additional padding" in it. In other words, he replaced the old foam with really thick foam, which is probably why its a little tight.

Yup. The SK2000 L had 1/2" foam while the Medium went with the 5/8". Same shell.

I knew I heard that somewhere, just was sure where. Actually, that thread was partly to blame for me going back to the old combo in the first place I guess sandpaper might be an option for adjusting the fit. It's not too bad, just a little bit tight.

On helmets past, I pulled the foam from the cardboard then shaved the back of it to thin it a little (temples & back of head) then reglued the foam to the cardboard.

That way my lumpy shaved foam didn't rub my head wrong. You'll never replicate the smoothness of the outside of that foam.

This is what I would like to try. Did you use sandpaper to shave the foam? If so, what grain? Any particular glue that works best for getting the stuff back in?

I heated up an exacto knife and sliced the foam carefully (I only did the temple part of the foam)... it came out pretty smooth...

As for glue:

I used a utility knife that has the snap off tips like this:

You can extend the blade to pretty much saw off what you need.

My dad is also a wallpaperer, so he has like a million of these knifes around. Add in the fact that I have been using these Olfa snap off blades since I was 4 because of my dad.

You should see us open Christmas presents!
