I use a 1" hollow and think its great. It makes it so easy to skate sideways as well as skate back and forth.

I go 3/8th's with a 1" grind at the front to get some traction. Helps for pushes and quick moves involving the front of the blade. 5'11", light-weight.

I like a flat cross-cut grind on an infinite radius.

Then again, sometimes I like to dance on the head of a pin.

just curious, if you drop your skates off to be sharpened and don't ask for any specific hollow - what do they give you? Is there a default? No hollow?

1/2" 120lb very light-weight

Tried doing 3/8 but my weight wouldn't permit. Shuffles were making my skates rattle, 1/2" is perfect for me.

VERY n00b question, but is there a way to tell what hollow will suit me best? I've never had my skates sharpened before (meaning I didn't take them to the shop, my dad always got them sharpened for me and I have no idea what hollow he got)

Im 140 lbs, 5"8 and I have a wide stance (ALA Roloson as in a deep crouch, feet spread apart)

Sorry for the newbie question

1/2" is great

I had posted that I changed from 5/8" to 1/2". I played on the hard ice I had been having problems with on Sunday with the deeper hollow. It was a big difference. I could move so much better (Or, "More Betta"). The first save was much more calm and effortless and I got to any errant rebounds or deflections more easily. I recommend using a deeper hollow to anyone playing on hard ice and is having problems gripping the ice. My weight is 165; my height is 5'10".

Whatever they feel like. I've been in some places that thought 2" was a standard goalie hollow, and some that wanted to flatten my profile until I told them what *I* wanted.

Honestly, if you don't know, and your Dad doesn't know, the only way is to ask the shop. If they don't know, then they just used whatever the wheel had previously been set to.
