Official Neums Thread...
I had to do this. Every time Neums posts something or some pics of his old school gear I get nostalgic... even moreso when he describes how it was to play pro in those days.
A few of you may or may not know but he played pro for a number of teams at a high level in 80's. He played with Bunny Laroque too. He made masks for a number of guys during that time period.
So please post anything "Neums" up here, pics, details, info, video etc. (hockey related, no smart asses on here)...
Mods I don't know where this goes

Dave always know everything about everything. He is probably one of the smartest people I have had the pleasure to talk to. I would love to have one of his masks over anyone elses. He made his masks with just fiberglass mat and never had one crack, even his NHL clients.

Thanks guys! This old washed-up second rate minor leaguer is feeling very flattered. Here are some old team photos, I'm standing all the way to the left in the back row in both pictures. Dave
...and a Danville team reunion in 2003 (showing off my favorite mask)

Neums, alot of the youngin's on here don't know what its like to have played in the previous era. Having grown up in the 80's & 90's I was fortunate enough to recall the stuff you posted & that era.
I really appreciate those pics. Nice touch. You're recent recreation of a Lefebre mask on the Classic Masks site was downright unbelievable.
I enjoy your comments as to how playing the pro game was then.
When did the Brown style chest-arm (one piece) become the norm? Could guys wire it like now? Did guys wire pucks hard in practice?

The Brown chest and arm combos started showing up around 1982. Just about everyone was wearing it by 1985. It was such a big improvement over everything else. I got mine in 1986 and I still use it. Before, I had Vaughn armpads and a D&R chest pad. It was the first chest protector I ever had that had plastic in it!
There were allways a couple of players on every team that could rip off a hard shot. In games you didn't think about getting hurt, but practices could be a little scary.

Some pictures from a recent Bradley University Alumni game:
Neums30 unmasked.
me and some of the boys (ahem,.. old men).
1st interview in 20 years.
warmups
stopping a penalty shot (Note to you youngsters: this is what is known as a double leg slide or "stacking the pads". Very effective on breakaways, had I butterflied, he would have scored.)

I'm not denying the effectiveness of the 2 pad stack, but i have to say this. Butterfly isn't about blocking to most people, you still have to react and have active hands in order to make the save.

Slashing is against the rules, very bad, you don't do that. 2 minutes in the box by yourself, you feel shame, then you get free.

Did you ever notice that Hanrahan's wife is also Ralphie's mom from A Christmas Story?

A Christmas Story? Never watched it. I hate most Christmas shows.
What teams did you play pro for? Where the Danville Saints pro or senior?
