I think I'm going to have to agree to disagree with everyone who has disagreed with my take on "proper stick positioning". I am not saying that the stick should be angled very sharply and I'm obviously not saying that the stick should be at a 90 degree angle to the ice, but what I am saying is that I find that having some angle to the blade works for me. IMO, blocker positioning plays a huge role in stick positioning. What I mean by this is I place my blocker just above my right pad while in butterfly to eliminate any holes under the blocker and above the pad. The angle of the blade is dictated by that. I use a 25.5" Montreal sized paddle (approx. 24" by RBK measurements) so depending on how good your trig skills are you could get some idea of what the angle of my stick is while in butterfly. Once again, this is how I play and what works for me. What works for me might not work for you.

Any tall butterflyers out there?
I'm 6'4 and have an ATK of 20" and another 10" from mid-knee to mid-thigh. I'm wearing 7.8 X-Wings that are 37+1. For some reason, I've never been able to close my five-hole when butterflying, which is why I play more of a half-butterfly style. My pads only come about 6 or 7 inches above my knees and even if I glued my legs together, the thigh rise wouldn't meet up. Does anyone else have this kind of problem?
For the record, the circumference at mid-thigh is 27" (what I can best describe as rugby legs). I don't know if it helps, but I figured it couldn't hurt.
Edit: sorry, but I actually don't have any pics at this point.

Everything looks good except one thing I noticed. You should try using a shorter paddle. It would close up that hole between your blocker arm and your body. Other then that looks good.

OK thanks! I kinda knew that because GM had a special on those sticks. I guess i
got a bit over excited and forgot to check the length. so now i am stuck with 3 of
them

If you have access to the right equipment cut the paddle down a bit. Those are 25s. 24's are hard to find... you're in luck check your PMs
Inferno- you always manage to look sick in those h10s

Just going to throw my 2 cents in here after reading several posts.
Why are some people critiquing butterflys when we have no idea what the situation of the game is? And when people are saying "keep the stick on ice"....yes, agreed, but where is the shot? If the shot is up in my chest, I'm moving my stick and glove hand to my chest and smother the puck, thus making the cardinal sin of "taking my stick off the ice". Basically, my point is that, a different save/style for a different shot.
I dunno...just seems silly to critique someone for not having perfect form at the exact moment of a photo being taken.

Typical comment coming from cechmanek.... always negative. just mad you couldnt stay in the NHL. Just look at your form on this goal....... terrible.
or on this one, I mean jesus christ, get your leg down.
Just kidding . I've always liked cechmanek, mostly cause he always looks sharp in his gear....
