ANOTHER Goalie who doesn't completely seal the front with a narrower b-fly.. he seems to be pretty good too

keep lookin at photos.

there are a few goalies who do not have super wide flares, or a perfectly sealed fly

the POINT i'm getting to is if you're in control. tight body and good in skillset, such a minor thing isn't going to destroy your game.

i can do a super wide flare now as you've seen. and i can tell you, it's got some HUGE downsides. i more often choose to go narrower in the butterfly and let my pads open up a little to gain both mobility, Agility and recovery strength as well as balance

now here's a guy with his priorities straight! just look how unsealed the shirt is! he doesnt even keep his fly even!

im not saying he should be wide...im just saying it doesnt matter if his 5hole is tight there because he reacting to a shot.

In a situation where he is just putting himself in front of the puck and taking up as much net as possible then everything will be closed. but this is not that situation.

luongo's not bad for it,

But Giguere is notorious for having a very narrow fly. watch him play. he does well for someone who doesn't usually get a perfect seal.

YouTube - Gettin' Jiggy With Giguere

watch his saves. most have a very open knee. hence why he wears the "giggy" need setup

luongojr, you got some crazy flare! Looks like it might stretch your groin a bit though

Do all V3's have that weird butterfly? I seen another goalie with V3's and it created that awkward seal. As in the top break would flex inward to make it look weird, kind of like the Rick's pads. (Did you understand that?)

get those knees close together. lock em in tight.

you'll hurt yourself if you try over stretching in this position cause your'e groin is already being pulled. you will have very limited "explosiveness" for reacting outwards from this position

there's a nother strong reason to keep yourself tight together. you have room to move outwards. use your muscles to explode outwards towards a play. if you're really stretched out to your max already, you can do nothing but pull yourself in tighter, which limits your ability to "lunge" or explode towards the puck

Anyone else think that critqing the pictures in this thread are useless when all of them are A.) off ice B.) not an action shot C.) No one even has full gear on.

I can take 5 minutes and set up the greatest butterfly ever on my kitchen floor.

Or just drop....but still it will be nothing like me on the ice.
