Show off Your Butterfly
Hey guys!
I just LOVE to see pictures of goalies in there butterfly stance, seeing how wide it is, citicsing it, seeing what I can learn, ect.
So this thread, you in your butterfly only.
I'll get started. Just a quick picture in the basement, on ice photos coming soon.

You need to get those legs closed tighter.

This is just a suggestion.... but you should probably bring your blocker down and in, closer to your body.

Yeah i have this bad habit of doing what he does, making the stick vertical instead of a ramp.

I used to do this. I'm just now switching over to using my stick as a ramp. I find that when I held my stick vertical like that, it gave me better rebound control.
Anyway's here's a crappy pic of my butterfly. My real butterfly is wider and both my glove and blocker are down sealing to my body in my real butterfly. (Yes I know my hair is messy! and I'm not that fat my shirt is ruffled.)

And remember everyone, the wider(flare) your butterfly, the better goalie you are

If that is an accurate depiction of your on-ice bfly, I would recommend the following:
1) Drive your knees together better. IMO, focus on 5-hole closure and then do your stretches to get that flare. No offense, but you could drive a truck through that baby
2) Don't sit. It looks like you're leaning back just a little bit, which can throw off your balance somewhat.
3) Glove and stick positioning - I'm not an expert and there are a few schools of thought, so I'm not going to BS you. On the topic of the stick, read this http://www.goaliestore.com/board/doc...-tips-3-a.html and then re-evaluate whether you really need to ramp it. It's a decision you need to make for yourself, but give it some serious evaluation. Also, try and get the stick's blade as flat as possible from heel to toe. You have the heel down, but I've seen that lead to or be a sign of pushing the stick too far out of the five hole when going into a bfly when in-game.
Any reason you're going full-fist on the stick? Again, a preference thing, but I think the finger on the paddle will help you get that control you need. I know I need it when I'm deflecting a puck over the glass.

Knees knees knees
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd much rather see a younger goalie with the knees tightly sealed and a slightly narrowed flare over the wingspan of a bald eagle and a five hole that looks like it's been working the streets at night.
Like I said, I'm no expert on bfly glove positioning, but I'd recommend at least keeping your shoulders level. You can achieve that same position (if that's what you want/works) by dropping your blocker elbow or moving your glove arm. Also, your glove is pointed up at the air; pucks come from the ice.
If anyone who knows better would like to shut me up, please do (I mean that in all seriousness; I'm trying to help, but I don't want to lead astray).

If i didn't bust out my knee at Wellsie's clinic then i would go to the rink and strap on my pads and take a recent picture you all you. But so far i don't really see anything thats been taking where the person hasn't said "this isn't my real butterfly." Sorry but don't post it if it's not your actual butterfly because then there is nothing we can criticise at all.

It's not.
In my real stance my elbows are alot tighter. As far as the stick, I broke my 2 good ones, and I'm stuck with an old intermediate stick for a couple games. So i decided with a 22" padle, I have to slide up just a bit.
But my 5 hole is something I strugle with. It acualy puts alot more strain on my knees to close it up than spread like that. It doesnt help that the pads I have are not very well suited to the butterfly style.
Thanks for the thots. Keep the advice and pics coming!

Thanks for the advice As I said I now position my gloves differently. Here's a newer pic of my butterfly. (Damn I do have a narrow fly!) I forgot to put my gloves on though
