Can I save these vintage pads? Beccaraptoromghelp

I have these vintage coopers in my garage. They belonged to my friends dad and they're really beat up. I'd really like to use them in an open hockey session.

What can I do to clean up the face of the pads?

It looks like I'll need a new inner lining, add a calf and knee wing and risers and possibly new straps and add some padding to them so they'll have more protection than pillows.

I don't have a sewing machine though so that's a problem.

You can tell they've been repaired many many times over the years. But I'd really like to get some use out of them so they're not just sitting around getting eaten by mice.

I'd just buy new ones, but since they belonged to my friends dad i'd like to try to fix them.

Get yourself some saddle soap PRONTO.

Saddle soap is essentially a moisturizer/conditioner for leather, it'll drastically improve the look and condition of those pads after some elbow grease is applied.

The faces of the pads need moisturized for sure, I am not up to speed on my real leather pad maintaince as I am a young'in but I can give Glenn Miller a call and find out exactly what to use. Scott might know too... I'll wait and see if he chimes in on this one...

I wouldn't replace anything on the face of the pad, it's got character now!
But you can tastefully add things onto the back of an older pad without making them look overly modern... it just takes a little more time and thought.

Yeah the isnide of the pad is full of holes from mice, so I want to replace that and add padding inside while it's apart. I dont want to do anythign in the front except put some kind of watersealing/protectant on it. The toes are all covered in patches these pads have a ton of character.

I'd like a knee and calf wing because the "calf wing" on their now is just a piece of cotton with no padding.

If you could find out what to use that'd be great.
