im pretty sure the 961 IS the 960 with a cateye. put a CSA cage on the 961, and abra cadabra you got a 960.

the 960 and 961 are the same mask. The only difference is that the 961 has a cateye. When you buy a 961 it will not be a certified mask. My 4601 wasn't anyway.

Another difference between the two mask is the thickness of the foam. Also I think the mounting screws are located at different spots for each mask.

if you get a 961 and put a csa cage on, you have to send it to itech because it will not be authourized as CSA approved. so if anything happened you would be liable (sp).

The 960 (certified) and 961 (non-certified) is the same shell, but drilled differently so that the different cages are not easily interchangeable. The 960 has a larger back plate and different strapping to get the HECC sticker, as well as a chin strap.
With some care and a drill, you can put the 960 cage on the 961 and probably never be questioned, but you cannot 'create' a certified mask.

The backplate on a 961 is smaller than the backplate or a 960.
The 960 is approved with the legal cage and bigger backplate. Same with all Itech masks, the backplate on the approved models are bigger and more annoying.

^^^Yup. That outside ridge gives it away, even before the cage drilling.

Did a search and found nothing about the 961, where can I find foam for the inside, besides maltease?

You're talking about replacement foam? I think Itech has a package you could buy. Check with them.

You can't. Nash probably has sheets of foam you can buya nd cut your own though. The foam is BTW another difference between the 960 and 961. The later model has softer and less foam.
