RBK equipment questions

Our player switched to goalie about a year and a half ago, so I'm still learning - if anyone could help answer these equipment questions, I'd sure appreciate.

He needs new pads, blocker, glove.

He's been using the RBK Premier Series 1. The leg pads are 31", but are getting too small. The blocker is literally falling apart. My wife and I have to duct taped and sewed together.

So, we're looking at new equipment. Our goalie wants to stick with RBK.

When we bought new skates last night, we had him fitted for the RBK Premier Series II pads, looks like the 33+1 is what he needs.

While reading about the Premier Series II pads, I see that there is an option for a "Double Turco break". I know what it is, but what is the purpose???? What type of a goalie would benfit from this?

He's 13, HUGE for his age. Any insights would be helpful.

I also see options for the glove, which are:

60 degree break or 90 degree break. I honestly have no clue what this means.

Also with the glove, there is an option for a "Nash palm" or "Nash Tbar", or both!

Still, no clue.

Thanks in advance,

BGD.

Turco Break:
Pad flex, what is it to YOU?

Read these threads for starters. Everything you need is already right here on this board.
Using that "Search" option on the tool bar at the top, you can find that lots of your questions are already answered. Try experimenting with it, but the ones I posted should be of great use to you.

If you are ordering this stuff in I say let him decide which is comfortable. There is such a huge differance between the 90 degree and the 60 degree he should be able to tell right away which he prefers. I'd presonally go with as much nash as possible but I can't offer any advice on the Turco break because I have no idea what it is and I don't wear RBK pads.

The "Turco break" pad helps goalies with a narrower butterfly seal off the five hole. They have a video explaining the difference between the two pads on the RBK hockey website, you should check it out.

Since he is 13, I'd even consider ordering the RBK 8k instead on the Premier Series 2. Protection level is essentially the same, but the durability is not as good in the 8k, but it is almost half the price. Chances are he'll outgrow this set in less than 2 years.

JON,

thanks for the tip - I'll try experimenting with the search feature. Your links were very useful.

Sounds like he'll need to try on a 90 and a 60 degree break glove, and decide which one he likes.

No problem...The reason why I mentioned it is not to be a search nazi, but because there are more threads out there relating to your questions

Speding over a grand on pads for a 13 year old is ridiculous. You could just get him P1's again if he wants to stick with Reebok. I'm 14 and I got my pads (brand new pro pads which I paid for all by myself) for around 570$. At 33+1 he will grow out of these incredibly fast.

What is your sons ATK? I have a solid black set I will be selling now that my sons new Smith's arrived. The pads are all weave 33in RBK Premier I's (1 1/2 years old), the catcher is jenpro RBK Premier I with a nash palm (1 year old), and the blocker is an all weave Vaughn Epic 8000 NHL specs (3 months old). My son is also 13 and can still fit these pads with a 17 1/2 ATK and 11.5 shoe (both factor into pad measurements). He ordered his next set/size up and they arrived quickly and fit so these are available if your interested. I haven't posted them up yet but will be shortly.
