I asked Pete to make mine with extra flex. Pad on the left is with it tied down the day I got them. The cardboard is to keep the laces from creasing the pad. The pad on the right is immediately after I untied it (less than 24 hours tied). I have not tied it since and they are still flexed about that much, although I do store them upside down.
