Im sure the pro goalies making 3 million a year are worried about a few thousand bucks for a graphic they designed..

You're missing my point. I'm not talking about getting paid for designing a graphic, but getting paid for branding yourself. Essentially if you tie something recognizable to yourself that is sellable you can make more money on doing nothing but playing in your gear. If you have a design on your pads (whether you design it or pay someone else to design it) and get the licensing for it, you can agree to a contract with a gear manufacturer where you take a cut on every pair of pads sold with that design on it. Imagine if guys like Luongo, Brodeur, Lundqvist, Price, Fleury, etc. did that. That money adds up.

I've been meaning to ask about that, and if it has been mentioned here, missed it. What is the MM for? I have seen it on player helmets too.

He has a new mask. It was posted on here last week. He just might not be wearing it yet.

Can you imagine if Potvin did that for his mask designs? I think just about every goalie has either worn it or played with someone who has.
Could you imagine having to pay everytime a painter wanted to use a similar design. That would send the costs up.
Also if I remember correctly you have to follow through with legal action on every case if you want to keep your patent. I could be wrong on this but it seems like that is what I learned or heard.
Another note to this would be once you no longer wear the design do you still get the profits? I would think yes, but I would guess that would be between you and the company.
OK that's my rant. I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

It's the same as anything else. If someone else is using your design you have to force legal action to stop them and be compensated for it. Sometimes a cease and desist will stop it, but sometimes people continue doing s they please. It's up to you whether the end result is worth it or not. Also replicating most NHL mask design is technically illegal as it's their artwork. I've heard some have even gone as far as hiring investigators to look for other painters making $ off their designs. I believe Cipra is one of them, but I'm not 100% sure.

Are you sure there isn´t anything on those? If you look at those pics, looks to me that there is something. Next to Velocity logo, above the knee rolls, looks a bit like the m´s on the pads.

Next to that guy´s hand. I may be wrong too.

Yep...there's something there. It looks similar to the bottom, but with maybe only one of the "M" designs....
