Hedberg went through that when he had good luck with the blue moose helmet, and then his Penguins one came in. He didn't wanna switch

You have the rule mistaken. The players must have the same matching color helmets, but goaliess are a little different because of mask paintjobs. As for their gear, Goalies are given a certain amount of time when traded or brought up to get new gear that matches their new team and break it in. If the keague deems it has been enough time and the player is still wearing his old team colors then they will force him to replace the gear or face fines/suspensions. This rarely happens though. So if a team has the colors red, black, white, + gold, the goalie must have a mask that somehow resembles the teams colors. If his mask is light blue then it's not going to fly. The league will give him time to replace it, but if he takes too long then something will be said to him to force him to comply to the rules/standards.
In this case black is one of the sens colors so it is a non issue. Plus black and white are considered standard colors so I don't think any team would have a problem using them for their goaltenders.

You know, people here talk about this rule, but I"ve never seen it in the rulebook.
I do recall Osgood being made to change his Redwings pants when he was dealt to the Islanders, but I think that the pants are considered the team uniform.
I think that if a goalie for say the Leafs, wanted to wear tan pads for example, the league would be fine with it.
I'd like to see a link showing this rule exists, or a comment from Keeks (who I doubt spends much or any time in this thread )

Gerber played awesome...should have been 9-0 Pens. BTW Emery is the most over-rated tender I've seen in a long long time.

Fullerton shut down my Titans last night...argh!!! They better smarten up! There was talk of Bathurst picking him up, from Lewiston, to help their "uncertain" goaltending situation back in the day. Since Russo, they havn't been able to land anyone to take them very far...

From what I've seen, Price will wear his new gear tonight for the first game of the playoffs. I find it cool, you know, players let their beard grow and stuff like that. So new gear to show you're going for a new fight, a new beginning. Playoffs in Montreal, it's something like you have never seen for hockey.
