No knee wings and obviously, no knee lifts! LOL
The pads look thinner than how they used to be and I bet they use new foam for them too.

I gotta see this guy play! does he not use the butter fly at all?

Yes he does, he just wears old-school pads and blocker that's all.

These world championships are an excellent exhibition of more traditional styles of goaltending. Latvia, Slovenia, Russia, Belarus, C. Republic and Slovakia all have goalies that play a more hybrid style making more old-school saves and I'm loving it.
Chakal, I agree that they probably used new foams to replace the heavy old crap they were filled with. It's probably like a R5 base with more modern interiors

That's pretty cool that Hnlicka hasn't changed his setup over the years. I'm a fan of sticking with what's proven. Even cooler that Nike Bauer is still making that old gear for him!

He doesn't need a guy that pushes him in the back for more icetime, he needs support. A teammate that can be a confident and sometimes a cheerleader (LOL).
Rumors say that Detroit are waiting for Miller to become free agent in 2009. They can rely on Osgood since then.
I see Theodore in 2 places, Colorado or Tampa Bay if Tortorella leaves. I can't see a smart goalie signing for a team where Totorella is.
|
I dont know about Rollie. I think he wants to play more and not sit the bench. Maybe they should go after Weekes. Lord knows he doesn't mind sitting. LOL Noodles would be good too.
I can't see Tampa going after Theodore. They just got Smith.

That knee wing is definitely different. I used to have a pair and that's not the wing that was on mine. I hated how those things landed compared to my old Vaughn Visions.

I used a pair of those pads for years, and actually nailed my bare knee on the ice less than the pads I'm wearing now that do have knee lifts. I wore them quite loose and got great rotation out of them too.

I wear old school Vaughn XP with knee and shin rolls that I wear really loose with knee stacks so the do a modern butterfly. Works perfectly but I could add a calf wedge for more support. I also run the straps inside the calf and knee gaurds so when I do a butterfly slide there's less resistance. Looks like Hlinka still runs his over the calf gaurd.

Funny knee setup on Leclaire's pads - the knee-wing is actually sewn in behind the calf-wing.

Actually there is a knee wing there, has a small piece of silver jenpro with the strap running through it. I think these are a couple seasons old, as I highly doubt cortina would attempt to make these, who knows he might be getting them refurbished after each season. Thats a R4 calf wing on there too i think
