New DR pad

DR Sonic X5...Doesn't look bad for low end stuff. Pads are $240. Catch is $90. Block is $75.

I haven't seen them in person, so can't comment on them, but these are undoubtedly part of their next generation of pads.

Catch

block

personally I had a pair of the newer dr's a couple years ago. They felt good on the ice but the wore down really quickly and basically fell apart after a season. There was actually a point that I took a shot off of my leg and i literally had to leave the ice because I thought I had broken my shin into pieces. Now, this could've just been a defective pair but they were priced about the same and they deffinitly were not for the level of play I was at, which was midget AAA and Federation Varsity hockey.

They look ok. I'd use it for ball hockey.

I agree. The equipment looks ok. But $240, I can't imagine that great materials were used in thier construction.

How much for the catch glove?

It says $90, right next to the leg pad price

Looks like the same 5.2 design I had a few years ago but without knee rolls. Can't say I ever had any real complaints, why fix it if it ain't broke?

Looks good for roller. I have used DR products in the past. The money I saved on gear I used for pain killers. Glove only though. I miss deer hair.

These will have a good short term application somewhere.

I know they are a low level pad, but I get their 8 series replacements will be along this line. Just thought folks would be interested. I am not endorsing them or anything (or know anything about them).

For anyone interested, they have their 2008 PDF catalog up on the site.

I like the way the X9 series looks, more so the pads. Their c/a though still looks like junk.

I'll try and head to the local shop here tomorrow and see if they got the new lines in. If so, i'll give you my observations there after

Ok...so i went to the shop as promised. And here is what i think...

I could only see the X9 pads as all they had in gloves were the X6 and X5.

Now the pads look nice to the eye. They are kinda heavy, these at 33" weighed as much if not a tad more than my 38" V1s.

The flex was about a 6 out of 10(keep in mind they are brand new). The channel is a tad busy.

They got rid of the floating cradle they had last year on the 8.2s. Instead it's an extensive calf wrap with one lower velcro and one V like velcro at the middle.

The knee cradle is SMALL! Seriously, my knee cap by itself might fit, but i doubt my whole knee and quad head would be comfortable. And it'd be worse if you wear knee pads like i.

The channel and underside of the boot uses nash. Doesn't feel too strong in my opinion.

I can't recall the price so i'll avoid any mistakes. The tag says Made in China. For their top model, i would of thought they would of made an effort to have it made local.

Understand that these are MY impressions and observations. You might decide differently should you have a chance to inspect them yourselves.
