I will say from experience that without question it is far far smarter to buy high end gear used than entry level gear new.
To be honest I think the single biggest difference with modern low level gear and used high end, is durability.
The modern low end stuff functions like high end now, but doesn't last.
For pads I would
strongly suggest you get used pads and then cover the gussetts and landing gear with duct tape, replacing it as it gets worn.
