Question Newbie Question about RBK 6K on street

Hi All,

I apologize for being a newbie and being a street hockey goalie posting on basically an ice hockey forum.

I am a butterfly goalie and am having a very hard time finding any street hockey pad which has any butterfly support. So, I have started looking at ice hockey pads, and the RBK 6K sr goalie pads were the most budget-conscious option I could find with butterfly support.

Can anyone comment on their potential durability to street (tennis court...not rocky asphalt)? I play on feet, so I also don't know if they would even be possible to use (though with the reviews I've seen, the bottoms have become pretty frayed pretty quickly, even on ice). Thanks in advance for any help.

Take care.
Daniel

I'd say, that if you can get them for like 350, it'll be worth it.

They're still an ice hockey pad, so they'll be very protective, big, and quite durable, but you're better off fishing out a little bit more money and buying a better quality pad if you're in a competitive league or anything.

With the 6K's, if you're playing often, they will be broken down by the end of the year.

just pick up some street hockey pads and sew in knee lifts... total cost maybe $65??

350 for street hockey pads is just stupid.

Better yet, get some skates and start playing for real.

You know, for some people, thats not an option. Being a goalie is very expensive. Not only is it very expensive just to play, but for equipment, and camps and such, some people can't afford it.

And maybe he can't skate? Or maybe he even just doesn't have the interest in playing Ice Hockey.

No, but who wants to buy a used mask, and a jock? Skates aren't the only thing I'm talking about.

I bought a used mask... Whats so wrong with that, I couldn't afford a new one, but I got an amazing deal on a pro level mask. There is nothing wrong with buying used skates or mask.

Well if you can get a great deal, then yes, thats fine. But me personally, I'd rather save up the cash to get a new mask.

Not only that, but lets say he just wants the RBK 6K pads, with Blocker and Catcher in a Sr. Model.

RBK 6k "Pro Spec" Sr. Pads: $349.99
RBK 6K Sr. Goalie Glove - NHL Spec: $139.99
RBK 6K Blocker Sr. - NHL Spec: $99.99
RbK 6K Sr. Chest & Arm Protector '08 Model: $199.99
Used Goal Mask: $119.99
Used Skates: $99.99
RBK - XP5 Sr. Goal Stick - 2 Pack: $99.99
Rbk Pro Goalie Jock Sr.: $59.99

Those prices are taken right off of Goalie Monkey, but I just got the used prices from my head.

That all = $1169.92. Thats buying mostly new stuff, which everybody would prefer. Let's stop arguing, and try to help the guy out.

i dont think the RBK's would last very long on tennis court type surfaces.. if it was sport court thats a different story. but id try something like this, Street hockey equipment by CCM, Mylec & Tour at Hockey1.com

i havent shopped around for you for the best price, i just remembered the pad and thats the first thing google came up with. but ive had these pads for about 2 years now, replacing them with RBK 6k "turco break" pads in june. but they served me well for the price of them

Yes. They're ridiculously expensive for the level of pad they are.

Like NJ said, you're better off just buying used pads off of ebay or at a local store or something.

ahaha those 1k's look awesome. I think that would be your best bet for road hockey. You can get the whole set in senior (up to 34") for $206 here:

RBK 1k Sr. Goalie Package

Wayyy better choice for what you're doing, for value reasons and practicality.
