Dlyan. I chipped the paint on the Sportmask I bought from you. Wanna re-paint it for me!

looks good, you've done a real good job masking, did you manage to key it eventually?

hope the paint stays on there for you.

Ha, yeah I'd need a few of those as well before I ever decided to attempt to paint my own mask.

Joking aside, I think it came out awesome. Great job.
Beer was the integral cornerstone in my decision to paint.

I hope the paint stays on as well! What do you mean by "key" it? I took a pretty hard ne off the noggin yesterday morning (first skate in it) and no chips or cracks....YET!

To everybody else: thanks for the good words! I was nervous as hell I was gonna screw this up, but I think I can live with the end result.

Of all the lessons learned from my first tim painting a mask, is it will take me a LOOOOOONG time to eventually get good. There is a reason it costs $500.00 when you get one done by the pro's. This was a simple two-olor design and there were times I wanted to drop-kick it off my deck into the neighbors back yard out of frustration.

But if you do get the huevos to paint your own mask, take your time, no short-cuts-let the paint dry, be extremely patint, and have fun! I look forward to repainting my mask next year.

key is just a term for using an abrasive on the mask to take the shine off, giving the paint something to adhere to.

looks real good, always liked the potvin design, as you say lots of masking lol

Ahhhh! Nope, didn't get the chance to "key" 'em. Lesson learned! Among many! What I really want to get a handle on is the Fu%@%#$ing clearcoat! I had 3 runs and a tiny bit of orange peel. Spent 12 hours in a hotel room in L.A. using some 1200,1500, and 2000 grit sandpaper getting rid of it. Couldn't feel my hands and arms the whole next day. I don't ever wanna see sandpaper again!

So Jake (or anybody else that has an educated answer), any tips on clearing....or is it just a skill one learns with practice?

clear is easier with a bigger gun, but if your using an air brush then you want a big fan, give the first coat a light coat kinda dusty this is a mist coat you do this from about 10" away this gives the next coat something to grip too, wait 5 mins, then give it a full coat this is a wet coat, nice even passes try not to go over one spot too often, and thats it really
