TPS R5 or RBK 6k turco break

ok, so until today ive basicly had my mind set on ordering the RBK 6k turco breaks from goalie monkey. but one of my friends was saying he has Louisville TPS Response Armor R5 Sr. Goal Pads
Goalie Monkey Exclusive!!! and uses them for roller hockey (mind you i only play roller hockey, on sport court) he said they slide alot better then his old RBK 6ks as well as being a overall better quality pad

now my real question is.. im more of a hybrid goalie, my butterfly isnt really that wide. would a more flexible pad like the turco breaks be better? or would a stiffer pad like the R5 be better? sorry for the newbie questions, first time buying actual decent pads.

I don't have a wide butterfly at all & I use the R5s..

& I believe that the R5s are made to be an upper level senior pad (compare to the 8k) so I would think quality is better on the R5s. But just get what you want. It's really what you feel comfortable in

rbk's with turco breaks are the better pads here for a hybrid goalie

well thats the problem, i dont exactly know. my current pads are like CCM FPS 3000's or some wierd name, was an older roller pad i got for rather cheap. i used to play defense and didnt think id stick to being a goalie. 3 years later here we are haha

so you have the R5's? how do you like them?

I love them. The leg channel isn't bare, but it's not too much, so that is something I like. The only thing I really don't like is that my set has very little flex, but the no-flex is starting to grow on me.

thanks for the reply, still torn between the 2. i mean, if the TPS truely is a much better quality pad then the 6k id pay the extra $50 and just to try adjust to the stiffness of it. i rather not buy something and have it fall apart in a less then a year

The quality of the R5 would be closer to the 8K than the 6K.

I have never used them on anything except ice, but I know there is somebody on this board who uses/used them for roller (I think evildink, but i'm not sure)

& if you have a narrower b-fly, the 6k turco's will close the 5-Hole better, but like I have said, I have a narrow b-fly & can pull off a near perfect butterfly with the R5s (too bad I have crappy technique & can't do it every time).

I would say go for the R5s, but that's only because they are higher quality & I own them

Is there such thing as a 6k or 8k turco break??? Like two actual breaks in the outer roll of a $300 pad??? Where are these things?

^^^^^^Yes there is such a thing. You can go to Hockey Goalie Equipment & Gear | Goalie Pads & Helmets | Goalie Jerseys & Sticks | GoalieMonkey.com to see the 8ks, & the 6ks are supposed to be on the site today

I just bought a pair of 6ks on a bit of a lark and after using them on ice I'm not sure I'd also use them for roller. The jenpro on the pads didn't seem to slide very well, although that might have been a result of them being brand new and the ice being chopped to hell last night. But they felt like they might stick more than I'm used to on sport court. If they end up replacing my Mission Elites eventually, I'm seriously going to consider covering the medial roll and calf/knee wings with velcro or slide plates.

Be sure to write a review! I hadn't considered those before, but they do seem like a possiblity for my next set of pads ..
