KOHO 700 Sr. PRO Line comparison

Hello,

My name is Aljosa from Slovenia. At 22 I already have 5 season of Slovenian 1. division hockey under my belt, but in the last two years I was kind of Semi-Pro. With couple of partners back here we have established a well known Pro Shop, that goes by the online name hockeyshop.si.

So far so good, but the game calling is too strong, so I have decided to return to the game full time. I did practice with a pro team here on a regular basis, I even played in couple of games in the past season.
Right now I have a:
- RBK Xpulse Sr. Pro 36"+1 GP
- RBK Xpulse Sr. Pro GB
- RBK Premier II Sr. Pro GM

It was kind of obvious upgrade on CCM Gatekeeper pads and blocker with Koho 590 catcher.

I kind of do not really like the full butterfly pads, because I like to model my game after Marty Turco. I have never seen KOHO 700 in person so I have couple of questions for my goalies here who did.

- 700 Catcher seems similar to P2 Catcher, but my main concern is Degree angle?
- 700 Blocker looks at some points similar to Xpulse Blocker, but what about weight?
- Are 700 pads similar to old Koho`s 560?

Thanks alot,
Aljosa

As far as i understood from GM, the 700 Pro line is entirely based off of the Koho 580 line.

I believe one or two members actually own the Pro line. Hopefully they can help you out.

Oh yeah, welcome back to the game

Wow man, very cool. Great english too.

As far as I know, the 700 line is pro level quality, without that price. It seems very solid and as Rich said is based on the 580 pad. Great for hybrids that go down, but not all the time.

The 700 is considered pro. However, it is made in china.

They have a Pro and a Senior model. At 1K+ I would doubt that the pro model is made in china. Check the Goalie Monkey Sub-Forum in this equipment forum. I'm sure they'll answer more questions.

Koho Sr. Goal Pads

Good Luck

The 700 line is all made overseas.

The One95's are made over there and are constructed very well and last just as long.

Just my 2 cents.

Since I posted I was looking through the GM section. You are correct. Sorry all.

I wear the Premier 2 setup with a 90 degree break. I've worn PLENTY of 580s before my RBKs. I have demo'd the 700 pro line and I was scared to get in the net with the gloves on. The catcher is nothing like the 90 degree and was pretty awkward and thin. The blocker was like the older style 580 but also seemed a little unprotected. The pads seemed fine for protection, but felt nothing like 580s. Sure, they looked like them, but look and feel is totally different. I'm not trying to bash Goalie Monkeys 700's in anyway as I was fortunate enough to demo a pair for free. They just weren't my cup of tea.

Hello,

Thanks a lot for the info. Yes, I can not wait to get back. I wake up every day and I start to train at 7 in the morning, since the heat is becoming the factor here also besides work. By what I have read, I could use the 700`s for roller hockey only. I was kind of hoping that they would really be like 580`s. So my next best thing that comes to my mind is RBK Xpulse Pro Spec with Premier 2 gloves.

I am 6`1 and I have had 36"+1 for 4 years.
Now I am thinking of going 34"+3.
You have any comments?

Thanks again,
Aljosa

The blocker and glove Ant demo's have all been changed. We did not like the gloves and blockers and had them all rebuilt from scratch. The new ones have the graphic going the other direction (like the 580) and the gloves are much, much more stiff.

Ant is right, pads are not like the 580. The 700 has a soft front (580 was a stiff shin), 700 has a memory foam in the thigh rise (580 was hard to close unless you had a nice wide butterfly). 700 pad is meant to be a hybrid and the 580 was a butterfly pad. Take it for what it is worth, but I have worn the stuff for six months - no issues. If you do have an issue there is a 1 year warranty.

Thanks, Mike

Hello Aljosa

I play in a Semi pro leage here in iceland and since I live in an island I can not go and see and feel the stuff before I get it so I have made many mistakes when I bought stuff.

The first mistakes I made was that I got 3 pairs of pads to small and did not fit and since the season was started I had to use them...

Second mistake I did was that I whent custom on brians beast pads and they came at 34+3 and the thige rise was huge and ridiculus.....

3 msitake. Then I got tps X lites 36 inch and they had to small thige rise and the catcher was had a bad grip for stick handling.

4 mistake . Got some rebook ps 1 set and that fit great but I am not that of a hardcore b-fly goalie so......

Well then I found the vaughn 7500 pads and they are great for my style...

Since you play like turco I would consider RBK ps 2 with turco brake but I would not get 3 on top of them .....

Just my 2 cents

Pads are like cars. It can be a great car, but every once in a while there is a lemon in the lot. You just happened to get the lemon in the lot. & because of one bad experience, you hate the product. But look at Petr Budaj, college goalies (who play at a higher level then both of us) who use them with a lot more stress on them. They do fine. Canada is not the Holy Grail. If you put time into it, the pad will be good. If not, then it wont. That's the same in every country.

Too bad we don't get the same pad they get.
