Neck protection?
Yesterday in a Seniors game I took a shot in the lower neck . Missed the adam's apple but it stunned me. Up til now I have been wearing a Vaughn neck guard but the puck hit the seam between the collar portion and the lower part. What are some of you wearing and do you feel a dangler is essential ? I haven't worn one up to this point.

Does anyone else find that the dangler gets in the way of finding loose pucks?
I was considering getting rid of it and then it snapped.
I've been dangle free for 1.5 yrs.
I'm loving the freedom, but every time I see a rising puck, I have to squeeze my cheeks just to make sure I don't brown the ice.

I think a dangler is the solution. I find it gives me piece of mind.

I used to hate having a dangler too! But I had to keep it on because of the shots I was facing, and I eventually got used to it.

The Vaughn neck protector is not designed for pucks, get a dangler. It only takes one shot to ruin your life.

I've never used a dangler and so far have relied on proper posture and a good collar to protect me. I recently got a DR Firewall neck protector from The Goalie Crease on eBay. Unlike some other neck protectors I've seen, it has a piece of plastic in the collar part.

In my never ending quest to evangelize goalies to use danglers, I once again post this:
Dangler Set-up
The solution I came upon (and I'm certain others did before me) solves all dangler problems and improves dangler safety.
In your case it might also prevent unsightly and odiferous stains in the crease

I wear a dangler and I would never play the game without wearing one. It gives me a piece of mind.

I took one Thursday night same spot, and had a dangler on!
Guy was in close flipped it at me I think to go over my shoulder as I was down. Came straight up under the dangler caught the edge of my CA neck guard and just below the Adam's apple as well.
Wasn't a hard shot, but my throat was tender that night and still a bit today
One of those fluke things, if there is a gap in the gear, the puck seems to find it

+1
If you play against people who can really shoot, and have quick releases, not wearing a dangler is very, very risky. I used to take mine off for some ice times, then put it back on for tournaments and skates with the NHL alumni, but that got old quick, so it now stays on all the time. It does make finding loose pucks a little harder, but that isn't an issue if you control the rebound, right???? (I couldn't even type that with a straight face)
I've had a few of the guys break a dangler on me. One probably would have hit the bottom of the metal on my Mage, but the other one would have likely left me with a really, really husky voice. Thankfully, the guys who shoot like that usually miss me and hit the glass or the net. Being old and slow has it's advantages......

I too have had a similar experience. I use a Crouch Collar in conjunction with a dangler. I find the crouch collar very comfortable and flexible.
