My father and little brother were rear ended by a drunk driver doing about sixty miles per hour (100 KM/hr for my Canadian freinds) as they waited completely stopped at a red light. The guy tried fleeing but my Dad chased him until cops caught up. My gear just so happened to be in the trunk and when the cops came, given the damage to the car (entire back end smashed in, rear window competely smashed), they could not believe neither my Dad or Brother were injured at all. I am pretty certain my gear took a huge brunt of that impact and acted as a shock absorber. None of my gear was damaged at all either.

flying

I was flying to a tryout from Philadelphia to Peterborough for a tier II junior A tryout. Sometime in flight my helmet cracked. my skates also lost their edge but i wasn't worried about that as much as my mask. Luckily the team let me use one of the Pete's masks so it was ok. I ended up needing a new mask anyway as that was was on it's last leg.

skates were frozen solid before a tournament championship. Quite possibly one of the most uncomfortable situations of my life

I was getting ready to head to practice 2 seasons ago. I thought that all my gear was in the back of my van so my mom and i were pulling out of the driveway when we heard a strange noise coming from the bottom of the car. I got out and inspected the car and found that my bag had somehow gotten wedged underneath our van. it took almost 30 minutes to get the bag, and everything was fine except for my helmet which didnt crack but was smushed and had to be stretched out quite a bit.

Drove my gear bag down to Van from Dawson on Wed morning so I could play some pickup there Fri night. Didn't tarp it because we had the kids stuff to cover up like his crib/bassinet thing and our luggage. The drive down was 13 hours and my gear bag is a DR 5.2 wheel bag with mesh panels on the sides and top. I didn't check my stuff until the night of the session and it was ALL covered in a nice layer of dust. Not that big of a deal unless you're medium to highly allergic to dust, which I am.

I rinsed out my mask in the lockerroom shower and thankfully had my underarmour smushed inside my pants so they were OK, but it was still itchy as hell wearing my C/A since my UA top had no sleeves.

Overall not too big a deal, but boy I should have tarped that bad boy.

I have also been the victim of cat piss. Hockey stink and cat piss is an unholy smell the likes of which should not be duplicated.

I used an entire bottle of lysol + had my gear ozonated. Had to throw the bag out. It was not salvagable.

At a weekend-long tournament once, a few players and I left our gear piled up in a friend's car when we left for the evening. Came back the next morning, back window of the car was smashed, gear EVERYWHERE. The whole car park was strewn with clothes and pads. Luckily I managed to find all my stuff, a lot of it had just been dumped in one place. It was full of glass though. And recovering it all meant that I had a grand total of 12 minutes to get dressed and warmed up.

Also when going to another tournament, my team were loading our gear into a van. Everyone's sticks and bags were sitting around the van. Idiot woman reverses from the parking space behind the van and runs over a bunch of sticks. Mine was the only one that got broken.
