CSA certified stickers??

Well,

today at camp one of the guys (not instructors) said that I couldn't use my mask (spormask vx with certified cage) because i did not have the CSA certified sticker on the back of my mask. is this true if i want to play at JV level for my high school? or is this guy just being a smartass?

Have to buy a approved mask. It's against the law to forge or try and sell CSA sticker. Remember what happened with WJD. The codes on the stickers have the mask company's names or short form in the code on the back. So a Sportsmask sticker should have SM in the code. Also if you get hurt using your mask and someone try's to go after Sportsmask for new helmet for you, Sportsmask will find out you illegally put a CSA sticker on a non approved mask. It's just not worth the risk. I find it odd though that a mask with an approved cage does not have a CSA stick on it. Did you buy it second hand or did the store you buy it from replace the cats eye cage with an approved one to sell it to you ?

Maybe talk to the hockey shop.

There are many good masks that are not CSA approved but are far superior to ones that are.

However, many organizations require equipment like helmets and masks to be CSA approved (i.e. need that sticker).

If this is the case in your league and/or camp, maybe the hockey shop should be aware of what masks are CSA approved and which masks they should be selling to 15 yr olds.

Maybe they can help you out with replacing your mask or something.

Or maybe the guy at your camp is out to lunch.

The Razor VX is a certified model so unless you purchased one with a cateye, which is not certified because of the cage and then put a certified cage on it the sticker should be there.

If you *want* to pull a fast one, you buy a cheap helmet (or get one that's relatively the same age as your mask). Get a heat gun and soften up the adhesive on the helmet's sticker. Peel, transfer to mask, presto. Each sticker has a number on it, but the vast majority of refs will have no idea what number relates to which mask or helmet. Besides, they don't have the time to check the numbers on each player's helmet, look it up in a book, and check if the number matches the make/model. All they look for is that orange and green sticker.

Of course, you could probably get into trouble for doing this, and the guy at the camp would probably still recognize your mask and know you pulled something.

I did this with my mask. But it *is* a CSA-certified mask... I ordered two cages with the mask, one cateye (for rec use) and one approved (for league use). Long story short, they shipped it with the cateye on and told me that since the cateye isn't CSA-approved, they didn't put the CSA sticker on the mask.

yea...just saw it...

thats why it's not there. the big thing, as someone else mentioned is leagues require the certification, which means that it meets a certain standard. As for masks that are better that don't have certification, well, this is true in some cases, but leagues and teams can't go by "trust me, it's good".

Just like you have to have the BNQ logo on your neck guard, the CSA sticker needs to be on your helmet if you're playing in Canada.

Since they knew you would be wearing it as a non-certified mask with a cat-eye at least part of the time, they cannot put the sticker on. If you're out there with a certified mask and get hurt because you're not wearing a proper cage that's on the mask maker. Lawyers and judges don't know the difference.

I did the same thing with my sportmask and have used for two years of varsity high school hockey. I have never once been asked if the mask was certified. I would continue to use it until an official would force you to change. There is no way a certified Itech 1200 is more protective than your sportmask. If your sportmask has a paintjob then you can say that the sticker was removed during the painting process, and that this helmet is on the list of certified helmets.

Almost sounds logical! :P

But aren't player's helmets and cages/visors approved seperately? That is, I can go buy an approved helmet one day, and an approved visor the next. Why can't they do the same... approve goalie masks and cages independent of each other?
