Rbk 6k Vs. Rbk 8k
hey guys,
I've been lurking the forums on my one year old account that this site has never activated. Well now, I can finally post and now is the time I need to. I have already searched, and there is a similar thread to this in the review that has no info in it. And I have read about both pads. Here is my situation:
Last Sunday I went to the Hockeyshop and purchased a bunch of new gear:
-34" RBK 6K Turco Breaks
-6K RBK Turco Break Glove
-Vaughn V3 Chest Protector
-Itech RX9 Pants
-CCM Vector 4.0 Skates
On Order : Brians DX2 Blocker razor graphics in Gold
Anyways, I am now contemplating whether or not I should return my 6k pads and trapper and get the 8ks. I'm playing 2 years atleast and I want to have problem free equipment. I heard many things fall apart on the 6ks. I haven't seen an 8K yet. I want to know whether you guys think its worth it to get the 8ks or not? I'm playing Midget "C" and probably a little AAA with my school team.
Thanks, Brendan

i used both the 6k and now i am in the 8ks. and i would recommend returning the 6ks for 8ks.
or even look on ebay for some cheap pro gear.

hey thanks for the reply, I'd feel really bad returning the gear and buying online. But I would much rather have better gear. Honestly, I don't think I need pro gear. I've never had pro gear, and I'm fine the way I am. But what were/are the main differences you see between the two since you've used them both. Do the 8Ks just in general feel a lot better?

The one thing that drew me towards the 8k was the stitched graphic, not printed graphic.
And the 8ks feel way better than the 6ks did. better constructed pad, Its hard all around, my 6ks felt really soft.
i wouldnt say there is that much of a diffrence betwee nthe two, just the 8k seemd like an overall better pad.
If you return the 6k leg pads, i would return the glove to . i have the full 8k set, and i havent felt any shots in my glove , and the blocker is amazing.

If this is your main (or only) set, I would recommend 8Ks. My friend has 8Ks and I have 6Ks that I use for roller. His pads hold up a lot better than mine (looks wise too). I only bought the 6Ks cause they were really cheap (got a deal on them) and I only use them for roller hockey. I use 11.8 X-Factors for ice play and they are my main set.

I can only chime in for the blocker but this would apply to the pads as well. The printed graphics are pretty bad, I didn't notice it until after I bought the blocker with the misleading stitching it has on it. Some of the red-paint on my blocker bleaded and is on the white part now after I shot. I don't mind marks as long as its puck marks. I imagine this would happen on the 6k pads as well.
Get the 8k's purely for a better quality pad that will last you those minimum 2 years better then any 6k can hold up.
