Knee protection...

3 weeks ago I took a freek slapshot to the knee. I was sliding across the goal mouth and it hit me where the thigh board connets to my pads. The next day I limped in to the pro shop and ask what they had in the way of knee protection. I ended up with a pair of Itech Pro knee protectors. I HATE THEM. they are bulkey the dig into my legs and I can't even use my knee lock on my pads. Every time I go down in the butter it feels like I'm a foot off the ice. I'm going back to waring nothing under my pads. I'd rather take the one in 5000 shot to the knee then ware those things.

I bought them, returned them after one use. Didn't even sit in the right spot majority of the time.

try the other version of the itechs, the one without the hard knee cap...those are a lot more comfortable and also more flexible !!

Agreed, try the other itech knee pads. They're not as bulky or possibly as protective but still a lot better protection then no knee pads at all. Plus they're cheaper.

I personally use the Vaughan knee pads. They lace into your pants and have been fine thus far. And they don't have the bulky round knee area like those Itechs you got and the RBK's.

Just ordered a custom pair on kneepads from Sara over at PAW. Theyre actually setup to be more padded on the inside of the knee to help with the overrotation of my pads and less padded on the center of the knee.

I will post pics once she sends them.

I have a set of these myself. Awhile back I also took a shot right off the knee cap and decided I needed to try something. I have to say I love em....They are a bit bulky but for me it is a good thing. I am not a very good butterfly goalie and I have 2 bad hips as well as 2 bad knees and the extra bulkiness of the knees pads take some pressure off both my hips and knees. The most important thing...The protection is great.

I don't think it can be laced into the pads since there's no flap to do so at the bottom of the knee pads, instead it's on the top. It doesn't move or shift around, but that depends on how well you lace them into your pants.

They're kind of similar to the itech knee pad (not the one shown above) in that it has a plastic capped area for the side of the knees. The difference (beyond it's pricier) is that the thigh-protection is better and a bit wider too. I'd suggest these but if price is an issue get the Itech ones instead. Try them on first of course.
