Helmet decals?

I was going to get acouple of my schools logos made into decals for my helmet. Anyone have any experience with decals? Do they hold up agaisnt ice and the puck hitting them? I tried searching but I could'nt find anything.

I had my teams stickers on my helmet last year so if the regular sticker held up I'm sure a decal would.

I used vinyl and an exacto knife and made cut outs of Homer and Bart Simpson. I have made others but have since peeled them off. Here is a picture of the Homer side.

Note that the desing does not look smooth on the picture because the picture has been resized when hosted.

When doing it yourself, the bigger the sticker the more difficult to place on the uneven surface of the mask. It is easier to made a large design from a few smaller stickers. That is what the Homer is a few smaller stickers together to make the bigger picture.

Leblanc design also has some nice vinyl stickers for masks. http://www.leblancdesigns.com/decals.htm

For the life of me I can't find any large sheets of vinyl. The art stores here just have non-sticky masking vinyl, but there's nothing adhesive I can find. Automotive stores seem to strike out too

Decal and clear coat?

I was wondering if you would be able to put decals on a helmet and then put a few clear coats on the helmet?

Since I have never airbrushed a helmet nor have I clear coated one I have no idea.

Just curious. Don't know if I would do that.

To properly clear coat, you need an HVLP gun and a big enough compressor. Your other option is to have a paint shop do it for you. You can clear coat over a decal.

Pick another word please....there are people on the board who have mentally challenged relatives who may be offended by the flippant use of that word.

Thanks!

Wink Mask Decals

I had my son's mask (black Itech) done with silver flames and stars by a sign company that does vinyl decals for commercial trucks. They had never done a goalie mask before but they had worked on motorcycle helmets. As someone else noted, there are some tiny wrinkles due to the mask shape but in general it looks good and held up through eight months of use. Best of all it cost $75

You can try a sign place and see if he would sell you some or tell you where to buy some. I got mine at a local large art store.

Just vinyl no clear coat is my recomendation. If you get tired of it you can peel it off with no problems.

There is a place that does goalie mask decals and clear coat with what ever you want on it as an alternative to paint. Wrap my mask. wrap my mask hockey goalie masks and sticks and lessons
It has been discussed here before.
I found the thread. Wrap my mask
It is not really cheap.

Vinyl is inexpensive and will allow you to try things on your own, with minimal risk.

I have used Leblanc twice now for decals for my mask. Both times were great.

I don't think I have had an actual shot to the decal so I can't say if it would survive a blast to it but usually Leblanc sends you an extra one .

The pic in my avatar is the newest set I got.
