Beefing up a gatekeeper....
Hey all, I thought I was going to be in the position to buy a new C/A this season but it seems thats not the case as things are tight these days and I will only have the buttons to get a newer pair of pants. So the GK pro will have to see one more season or less.
I do however want to do some modding in order to improve the protection a little bit. I would like to have it extend a little further down below the stomach and I would like to somehow ad protection to the chest and tummy portions.
Someone told me I should just buy a baseball catcher's chest pad and wear it underneath lol but I dont think thats in the cards however it did give me the idea of somehow sewing one to the inside or something.
Anyone ever mod a CCM Gatekeeper pro? If so.. I would love some tips.
Thanks guys.

A good mod for the GKP C/A is to add blocks of foam to the left and right of the big block in the centre of the clav floats, but you'll have to attach it in a fashion that allows your clav floats to not push up or our vision and arm mobility will be shot.
I took out one of the shoulder caps on both sides (blue piece, if I recall correctly) which helped greatly in arm movement, and was considering taking some camping mat foam and cutting 4"x4" chunks to attach in those spots, but ended up selling the thing as the arms were too long for me, and the lace-ins could only be pulled back so far, which wasn't enough.

Check out what NewYorkGoalie did to his Matrix c/a. I also saw a Brown heartguard on eBay. Maybe you could by one of them and attach it to your c/a? If you need a longer c/a, you could buy an extra row of padding from PAW.

The middle block in the chest pretty much makes adding a heartguard impossible, as it will puff up over the clav floats. I thought of that, too, but it wasn't feasible, unless you attach it to cover the part below that one thick block.

I am not playing high up however that really has no bearing on anything, a slapshot from a 35 year old beer leaguer is hard enough for me and I found myself getting a few more stingers in the chest area than I would have liked last year. I will agree though that the GK is in fact a solid unit but if there was some way to beef it up in the chest that would be amazing. The Brown heart guard idea sounds cool but as it was pointed out, it may not work because of the big center block.

I suppose I could ask the girl from PAW if she could design an addition for a GK but that might not work because I will need my C/A in about 3 weeks when my hockey gets moving again. Unless she can design one from a factory specs sheet.
However if anyone has a Brown heart guard piece that they dont want or might want to get rid of, PM me.
Any other ideas?

Hey man, I have a JB554 piece that I'm not using. But I was also the one who pointed out that it might not work. I also have a piece off a KOHO 590, with the honeycombed air pieces (Cell-U-Layer) in it, but it's MUCH smaller than the Brown. Both still have their elastic tabs attached, so you could sew either one in.
PM me with an idea of which one you want and how much you want it for, and I'll buy one of those CanPost envelopes. I can probably fit both in, and whichever one doesn't work, you can send back?

You have a PM man, thanks in advance. Now for the bottom, I am pissed because I had a PERFECT piece of padding for the job that I chucked in the trash some time back when I cleaned out my storage room.
I know what I need for the bottom extension beef up so I just have to head down to play it again and see if they have something I can use for the job.

PM returned. Look for an old player chest protector that has a belly flap, I had an older one that had a velcro removable belly extension piece that would be perfect for sewing on to an existing belly flap.

you could sew the brown cheat plate to the inside of the C/A. This way it would not get in the way of the clav floats. Just a thought.

Ideally I would love to round the elbow floaters a bit to make it less restrictive when handling the puck however the only sections I dont feel 100% on are the chest because I got a couple real bad stingers there last season and the abdominal coverage because I am a shade too tall for the unit.
