Vaughn or Vortek?
Im looking to get a new set of gear and was wondering if people generally prefer Vaughn or Vortek? I know it has a lot to do with personal styles and what works for one person may not work for me but since i have no way of trying these pads before i buy i was just looking for some input.
I currently use vaughn vault so i guess i am more used to the vaughn pads but i kinda want to give vortek a try since i have heard a lot of good things about them and i can get the pads more tailor made as it were without spending a fortune (which i dont have). I would be looking at either the VK7 or the 7400 Velos.
I have done a search and read reviews but nothing actually compares these two companies (that i found)
Thanks

You're going to get a TON more use from the VK7 than the 7400. The difference is significant. I have 2 sets of the Vortek gear and have worn them a lot, and they're still in perfect condition. You won't get that durability from the 7400s.

Vortek is easily as good if not better than the pro vaughn pads. You'll pay twice as much and get nothing extra for it. I have never felt or experienced a pads so light and so mobile as the vortek; the blocker and glove as amazing as well!

I've got the Vortek VK7 and its worth every penny. I haven't felt that many stingers and the ones I have felt were just unlucky shots that hit me right at the break. On top of that I don't have it with a pro palm either so I bet the pro palm would've prevented those stingers. A guess a plus is that Vorteks don't take as long either. Hope that helps

If you were trying to decide between Vaughn 7500's or Vortek's the desicion would be a lot harder but you're going to get a lot more bang for your buck with Vortek than Sr. level Vaughn pads. The other major thing is that with Vortek you'll be able to get exactly what you want (colours, mods, etc) if you're ordering custom; with Vaughn you'd have to take whatever was on the shelf because Sr. level pads cannot be customized.

Another good option for you to look a t would be Smith pads. Me presonally I have never used simiths but I have heard nothing but good things about the craftsmanship, durability and weight of these pads. Just another option to consider.

I agree with the guy above me, go with Smith or Vortek, more bang for your buck, and from what I hear, both very nice guys to deal with.

right up my alley. I was wearing Velos for about 5 years, got real use to em and comfy. Got a blingin set of Vortek VK7's, gloves n all! They were a VERY nice pad, built solid, very light, flexible and the price was very good! My problem was the leg channel on the VK7's, theyre very RBKish, open channel little support in the ankle, which i realized I really depended upon with my Velo's. I struggled because of this reason in the Vorteks. Also the Vorteks had a real stiff boot, although the soft boot is now standard on the VK7's. I still use the gloves! I love the gloves, although id order them just a hair more to my liking in the future. If you can get to a set of RBK's and like them alot then the VK7 is a no brainer, although i believe Glen told me he could have modded the leg channel on my VK7's i opted to go back to my Velos(3rd set), i guess you CANT teach an old dog new tricks!

If you're in Canada, you can also try Boddam. Made in Canada, great stuff at about 1/3 less than Vaughn. Equal quality.

Well thanks for the advice guys, i have decided to go with Vortek. To be honest they just sound too good for me not to go with.
I bid on an ebay auction for a set last night and won, so for $699 im getting a custom set of quality pads just got the difficult bit of working out the design now!

The only difference between the 7500 and the 7400 is that the 7400 is made in Asia and can't be customized. They even use all the same materials that they use in the 7500.

I bought a full set of VK7's too. I should get it next week. $699 is a rediculus price for a pro equipment... At this price, you can get big names gloves without the pads ! Talk with Marc for the mods, he's very helping. For the colors, have a look at the other Vortek pics posted on there forum. It might give you ideas.
I went with all black with gold fangs and bindings. I also ask for gold back on the pads.
I'll post pics when I'll get them.

There are some differences in the leg channel and inside landing gear as well. The 7400 is more like the original V1 and Vault in those areas.

Probably a good decision there.
One word of advice: get your order in ASAP. I'm at week 17 today after placing my order, so be prepared for a wait period. I'm told mine should be shipped by the end of the week.

Week 23 here. Have to share some of the responsiblity for that since I made some changes to the order more than once. But it will take awhile regardless.
