This is a sad day for goalies everywhere. Brian Heaton will forever exist as one of the best builders and most innovative designers ever to be involved with hockey. Through my phone conversations with him, I found him to be extremely friendly and easy to talk to. I ordered a blocker from him and he had asked me what I do for a living and I told him I was a teacher. Over a year later when I called him up to order my glove he remembered me and asked how teaching was going. This shows what a compassionate and caring man he was. My condolences to his family and friends. I will always say that Heaton will be my favourite gear of all time. I really hope that CCM/Reebok does something in memory of him. Again, Brian Heaton you will be dearly missed by the hockey community.

First and foremost I want to say that I send my deepest regards to heater, who is a member here and the son of Brian Heaton, as well as the rest of his family, blood and extended.
Brian may not be here in body but he will always live on in the legacy of his family and friends who knew him best. So to you the Heaton family and friends please remember that it is never a loss unless you stop remembering.
If anyone comes across information for donations in Brian's name to the charity or research department of choice please post or let me know.

Hey Marz,
Is there a way that we as a community might be able to make a donation to a cause that might have been near and dear to Mr. Heaton's heart as kind of a way as a community that was so positively influenced by this man, we can say 'thank you' and that he will be missed?
It might be a great idea. If so, please make it public information if you have it.
Thanks.

I first spoke to Brian around 1988 when I was in college. I was already in the goalie business but I wasn't sure what direction I wanted to go in when I got out of school. I had heard that Brian had worked for Cooper and he had, of course, started Brians and Heaton by this point. I called him up to ask for some advice and Brian, being the gentleman that he is, took the time out of his very busy day to talk to me about different options and his past experience. It was a very kind thing for Brian to have done and I never forgot it. He was also very complimentary of my work and that was a thrill for me to hear. As a designer in the goalie equipment industry, it is impossible to deny or ignore Brian's impact. His work will live on. He was a real talent, a real gentleman and will be sorely missed. RIP Brian. Sincerely, Pete Smith

Seconded.
I never spoke to him or owned any gear of his, but obviously his work was a huge part of goaltending, and forever a part of our position.
I also like the idea of a commemorative line of gear, or at least a patch honouring his memory.

Sad News
So sad to see this news! My heart goes out to his family and friends. He really made a stamp on the goalie world. I remember always dreaming/wanting a set of Heaton pads.
R.I.P. Mr. Heaton,
all the best on the other side.

That is a fantastic idea.
It's awesome to see that a man who meant so much to the development of the position is also remembered for the depth of his heart and the content of his character.
The Gates of Heaven are today 6' by 4'.

This may sound trivial, but when I heard about it this morning, I kept hoping it was another Heaton or that it was some kind of joke.
