Save the signature, wear the pads
I have a set of pro returns with a signature on the front below the knee rolls. The material is blue cross weave clarino and the signature is a silver sharpy. What can I do to seal the signature so I can wear the pads.
PAW and equipment people, or anyone, suggestions much appreciated.
iron on, uerathane,
Thanks in advance,
Due to recent tragic events these pads and signature are even more important then ever.

Perhaps an acrylic clear coat? i know the style i play the knee rolls hardly make contact with the ice, so 'd bet the clear would last awhile, although, id still give it a recoat every so often. Btw is this a Brian Heaton signature?

BHG Pads
Thanks for the info Keeps
The pads are BHG pads with Belfours signature that were on Brians website 2 yrs ago. I received an email from Brian 5 days before his passing, telling me where they were and to try and get a deal.
After doing exactly that I received the pads 5 days ago. What a shock when I heard.
They are definitely not just a set of pads.
Thanks Again

Stick a piece of shipping tape on top of the signature. If you cut the tape right and stick it on the pad in a good way you'll likely have a near invisible protective layer on top of the signature.

Yeah, those were up there for a good while, pretty pricey too, but they looked real light.
Why not contact the HHOF and ask how they would do it. You might be surprised.

My first thought was using beeswax (snoseal) as a protective barrier for it. I only have black sharpies here to run a test with but so far nothing bad has happened when I applied the snoseal with a hairdryer to heat it up, it still looks the same. If the chemical makeup of a silver sharpie is the same as the black then you would be good to go.
Does the weave have any wear on it? If so putting tape on could cause the top coating to peel in the future if you leave it on for any length of time. If it's not been used much then a small piece of tape like Gregan said changed every game would work if the tape will still stick when cold. Tape shouldn't peel the signature up. Just be careful with alcohol though, it will erase sharpie!
I would call the HHOF just to see what they say, maybe they know of something better or that would last longer.

What about rectangle made of some thick clear vinyl with contact cement on the edges to stick to the pads. That way nothing is adhered on the signature itself, but the vinyl protects it, and moisture cannot get in around the edges?

Givin what has happened, personally, I would moth-ball those johnnies...
I love The Eagle, and BHG Gear is Top Shelf, unless you have no other gear to play in.....
I would rather buy and sport some Itech 4.8's than abuse those BHGs'
Just me though

Dude, I would keep those off ice. It may be tough as I'm sure they were far from cheap, but I would keep them mint.

im pretty sure the HHOF will just say"Put it under glass" lol.
Get some pics of these things up! im curious now! May help us determine the best way to cover the sig too. Meh I'd use em, unless Eddie wore them in the cup finals or something , or even game worn then id change my mind, but if he wore em a couple times in a practice or they were just returns id be rockin em!
