If you're making a mask fit by adding foam you may not be getting the protection you think you are.
If you find it to be heavy most likely you'll never get over that.
Better to look elsewhere for something else.

Hackva
Gabe, just wanted to thank you for your help today. It was great that you took the time, and did made the mask fit me better than how it did before. Standing behind your product is an understatement!
Played again tonight with the mask, the ton of added foam to the top did help it a lot from sliding down my face as much as it did before. I'm going to losen the straps on the sides, and see if that helps out, still a little tight on my melon.
Thank you so much.

I havent, but if you just wanna know if people have, then the answer is yes. Many on this board have removed the chin cup from their Hackvas and they claim to like it better. Wouldnt that promote the mask sliding down your face more though? I personally like the chin cup on my Hackva and I would feel that my mask is not secured without it.

Yeah neither of my masks have the chin cup in anymore. I use the strap the cup usually goes on to go under my chin. I feel like it's alot closer to my face, and just generally fits better.

In case anyone (like me) was curious on the weight of the hackva masks I grabbed my trusty .oz scale and compared my Hackva mask to my Sportmask Razor that I have.
Here are the results;
Hackva: 3lbs 4.9oz (1496 grams)
Sportmask: 2lbs 10.7oz (1210 grams)
Also here is a mini review of the Hackva;
The Hackva is an ok replacement since I took a monster shot off the chin of my SportMask and needed something fast. But I would not say that the Hackva is pro level protection like the Sportmask is. That being said the Hakva also rings in at about $225 cheaper that my Razor was several years ago.
And I hate the chin cup strap on the Hackva. Its a good idea, but it never stays and I am always having to readjust it in between play. I think I am going to yank it out and put a traditional one in, or try a sling.
Anyone else with feedback on the chin cup strap?

Gabe is incredible, going to meet tomorrow and perhaps fit the mask better to my head. So great dealing with him.

There is a guy over on Battrams boards that is a dealer and sells them for 10% above cost. get a hold of him if you want one of these, they are pretty reasonable at that price.
NOTE:
Please don't ask me for prices, I am not the guy and I do not work for or sell Hackvas. I am just trying to help you all get a good price if you are looking.

Do you mean 10% BELOW? Not above?

Yeah, he sells them for 10% less than what he pays for them. Loses money on every sale, but makes it up in volume.

No I mean 10% above cost.
say he buys them for X...
he then charges the customer X + X(.1) = price
or in other words he only makes a dollar for every hundred that the mask costs.
Remember COST is what he pays for them as a dealer, not the prices you will see online or at a store, which is called RETAIL.

Hackva
So, tonight I played with my chin cup removed from my Hackva mask. It was a big improvement for my head. A lot more comfortable, I had so much free to move my mouth and communicate. Felt a lot better without it.
Gabe also helped me yesterday by adding more foam to the top of the helmet, closer to the front. And it no longer moves/slides down my head a little. It's absolutely perfect now.
I really hate getting new equipment. I like keeping what I have until it gets so soft, that the pads or block/glove almost collapse from being so soft.

wait so lol...all this time i never knew that if sweat is sliding down your face profusely it is the helmets fault!!! i got my hackva in early august, and i thought it was bc the tighter fit (i am coming from an itech 1400 for like, 80 bucks at the local hockey shop lol) made me sweat more due to the extra heat LOL. yea, i guess i'm stupid.
what can i do to stop the excessive sweat dripping if i live really far away, like....10 hr drive. i'm sure there are many who live longer but, flights are expensive when they involve la guardia or jfk or newark, and a 10 hr drive for a stinking helmet is ridiculous...do i need to go to him to get me re-fitted, or does he have a certain way for customers to measure at home?

Luckily, I live close, within 10 min of Gabe. It is the closest it could be, to a custom fit mask at this point. He just added a few pieces, moving them around until we got the right setup that worked for me, I guess I have a weird shaped head? I have no hear on half of my head, and the stuff that I have, is cut close, perhaps this is why? Going bald I really can't say enough good things about him. What everyone else was saying is true, real great guy.
It's very comfortable now, with the added foam, chin cup removed like someone else said I should possibly try, and adjusting the straps in a million different ways. I don't even notice at all that the mask is a little on the heavy side. The mask is so solid, and stationary now on my noggin.
