New to goaltending-Question

I have all my equipment purchased....and could'nt be happier, i just have a few questions. My pants that i bought, are they supposed to be really wide? AKA jetting out the side of the goalie pads? another quick question, would baseball glove oil(used for softening material for breaking in faster)work on a hockey glove?

Unless you got yourself some 4XL size pants, generally they are bulkier than forward pants. The only stream line pants i ever wore were the Tackla 6500.

The oil for your gloves can't hurt. As kids, cause we didn't have access to some, we used some baby oil or vaseline.

yeah water will do. if your going to use oil, as in baseball gloves, use i sparingly! a little does a looong way! breaking in a glove is the same as a baseball glove. Use It :] thats the best way. as for pants, i have 5Ks, the ultimate flat faced pants haha. they rock and they dont jut out as far.

I wouldnt sugest oil on the glove, 99% of goalie equipment is made out of a synthetic leater, unlike yer rawlings softball glove that constucted out of rawhide. As for tha pants, as long as they fit you in tha waist, you should be fine.

I steamed my glove when I first got it. I tied it cuff side down above a pot of boiling water for like 20-25 mins at a time, then I would untie it and wear it while sitting on the couch watching TV at night, occasionally taking it off and opening / closing it with 2 hands. I did the boiling water thing like 3-4 times a night for a week and then by the time my first game with the gear came, it was like I'd had it for a year.

Just to note, make sure if you try the boiling water vapour / steam thing that the glove isnt touching the pot at all. I placed a wooden spoon across the top of the pot to prevent it from touching.

I know it sounds odd but it worked for me. If you have one of those steamer things you could use that too.

Ive heard about that method also, A safe method is if you are a member of a gym, leave you gear in the steam sauna, i have also heard showering in it works too.

as far as getting a glove ready - my past 2 gloves, i put a nerf football in the pocket and wrapped it tight with a bungee cord. if its not on my hand, it is wrapped up like that.

id avoid the steam room at the gym, read the craigslist missed connections there's a lot more things beside steam going on in there

The steam room at my gym smells like urine and sweaty taint. But that could beat the sauna because thats always full of obnoxious old bastards that all cant seem to read the sign on the door that reads in big red lettering "A TOWEL OR BATHING SUIT MUST BE WORN IN SAUNA AT ALL TIMES". And on top of that I have to listen to them go on and on about hockey when none of them seem to know much of anything about the game after 1980.

That plus the usual packed locker room full of dudes that would rather walk around naked with their old balls and hairy back on display for 10-15 minutes instead of oh... I dunno, PUTTING ON CLOTHES and going home. Essentially, my gym is annoying.
