Florida Hockey Stores?!

Hi there,

Well, i was informed today that my parents would be leaving at pretty short notice for a last minute holiday in Florida and, they were asking if i wanted any equipment bringing back (im in England) so..i immediately said yes, as i need some new body armour.

The problem is, last time they were there, they struggled to even find a place that sold jerseys! While ill admit that they dont exactly know what to look for, a quick online search has left me scratching my head.

I cant seem to find any large retailers there through google.

So, could anyone please point me in the right direction of somewhere in Orlando or Tampa that would have a decent stock of C/A's and be pretty easy to find?

Also, as a side point, if anyone wants to give their reccomendation as to what i should go for (im upgrading from a tired looking reactor 6 c/a) then please feel free to let me know.

Many thanks,

Ned.

I'm sorry to inform you that I live in Florida and it sucks.

There are no decent stores around here, so you're going to have to go to pro shopes in various rinks. The Brandon Ice Sports Forum, which is the official practice rink of the Tampa Bay Lightning, has a shop with a decent amount of pads and C/A's. You might want to call them to see what they have.

Another rink is the RDV Sports Complex (Orlando). There is a rink with a giant pro shop that might have a few C/A's. You should call them as well to see what they have.

Any other rink in the Tampa/Orlando area will have nothing. I live in the central area of Tampa and Brandon is about 30 minutes away, so it shouldn't be a far drive.

Let me know if you have any questions

Yea I'd probably make sure to call up the rinks as early as possible and they might be able to help you out. I know down in Miami there is litterally no where that sells anything more than goalie sticks besides Incredible Ice (where panthers located). When I was playing up in Tampa I talked with a guy at the proshop, and they had various goalie equipment part, but definitely not much variety. However that was some smaller rink, I bet that the Lightning's home rink would have much more variety.

As Hasekfan mentioned, you have the RDV rink with a pro shop, as well as Rinkside in the Ice Sports Forum (I had their number handy - 813-643-5779).

There is also a store in Ellenton, not far south of Tampa (in the rink off of the interstate). A bit pricey, but you never know what you might find.

There are also three shops in the Ft. Myers area, which is a good hour and twenty minutes south of Tampa - one in Germain Arena (239-948-7825), a second in the Skatium (kind of small, though), as well as Gulf Coast Hockey.

Rinkside is probably your best bet for goal gear. They had a ton of stuff in there (by Florida store standards, at least) last I was in.

You could try Ellenton, but last time I went there for a Labor Day Tournament they didn't have anything but old Vaughn's and sticks. I doubt they'll have any. The store is actually owned by Beaudin, so if you research Beaudin's store you can get questions.

Like I said, Brandon and RDV are probably your best bets.

Feel free to send me a PM.

Gulf Coast Hockey near the Germain Arena in Ft. Myers has a pretty good selection of goalie gear. Brandon is pretty good, too. I was there just today. They carry mostly RBK, Sherwood, and Itech.

you also want to look at David Goverde's shop in the Orlando Area, www.justhockey.com

There is another rink In Kissimmee, but the ONLY place with C/A's in stock will be Goverde's shop, RDV does ot carry goalie gear nor does the Ice Factory in kissimmee.

Go to the shop in brandon. It's called Rinkside Sports. The Person you want to speak with is Allen. They have a good selection right now of C/A,, Mostly Itech & RBK. If you have any more questions PM me. I play there 3 times a week and do most of my buying from him.

Mike

David Goverde and Allen in Tampa

David Goverde is a good guy to deal with and he will get you some nice prices as well. He is located in the Casselberry area (North of Orlando 5-10 minutes from RDV).

I have known Allen for years over there in Tampa/Brandon FL. He is a great guy to deal with as well. Depending on where your parents will be will probably make their decision on wether or not to go to Orlando or Tampa.

I will say though that NEITHER of these place will have a wide range of goalie gear. Your best bet is to always go out of state (FL) for goalie gear unless you have a very good connection with the rink/pro shop.

Ya this is your best bet to find something. He has a few c/a's, pants, and pads. Most of his stock is Jr sized or Sr small c/a's, but he might have got more in.

I work at the RDV Ice Den and though we sell goalie gear, it will take a week to get in. We carry: Bauer, RBK, CCM, Itech, TPS, Graf, and Sherwood. Let me know if I can help you out in any way!

Yea thats where I went up in Tampa, talked with that Beaudin guy and he said he had a couple pairs of 35" ultralights (used) at one of his other shops. Unfortunately I never had a chance to get back to him on it. He had a couple pairs of pants, cages, and I believe a few PII or PI c/as .. not sure if they were junior or senior size
