Thats the correct way, so 17 sounds about right!

Okay thanks a lot will do

I actually had another question for anybody regarding my skates.

I have the Bauer Supreme One55 size 8.5 and i know the heels are supposedly tighter than most other skates but i was wondering how it should feel i guess? I know its kind of vague

the little pads are right above my heel tight to my ankle which i feel like is right but they are kind of hard i was just wondering if this is something that will break in or whatever or will repetitive use end up like bruising my ankle?

I would replace the envy 7 with a hackva (a better mask IMO). Have GoalieMonkey match Don Simmon's price of $272 and you will pay less than the $290 for an envy 7. And Hackvas come with a lifetime warranty, too.

I Disagree

If I were you I'd buy an Itech 1400 or 2500 mask for now. I wear a 1400 and play with some guys with wicked shots. I've been hit in the face dozens of times with no issues. I personally think all the trash talk about the 1400's is just that - trash. All HECC certified masks go through the same certification process. You can always upgrade once you decide if you want to play goal permanently.

That would give you enough money to go with Vaughn Epic 8600 pads instead of the Rbk 6k or Itechs. They are about $425 on GM and so worth the money. Good quality butterfly-style pads that will last you a few seasons. Awesome protection, rotation, rebound control, etc.

I would also maybe spend a little more on pants. They don't get a lot of press because they're not flashy but you're much more likely to get hit with a nasty slapshot in the inner or outer thigh than in the face. IMHO it's worth it to buy a decent pair of pants.

Okay so hows the reebok sr. pro spec goalie pant?

and anybody know about my skate question? i was thinking about going back into the store to try on some other sizes when i go to get them sharpened

and i might change to the profile 1400 for now until im sure like you said. i plan on playing at a skate in shoot near me no leagues or any team to get on that i know of beside my college team which oviously isnt gonna happen haha. so i dont think i should be facing very hard shots anyway.

I have the RBK Sr. Pro goal pants and love them. Very protective and surprisingly mobile, especially considering there's so much inner thigh protection (which was an adjustment from my TPS pants). I recommend them.

I wouldn't recommend the Itech 1400, though. Some of the hardest shots I've ever taken were at skate and shoots/open hockey. You simply never know what kind of rocket is going to show up to those things. Don't go cheap on the head protection, ever.

I put this together from GM site

$ 376 Rx5 pads and glove combo
$130 RBK 3K skates
$90 KOHO pro pants
$140 RBK 6K C/A GM spec
$300 Hackva 2608 mask
$1038 total

I’m sure you could get them to throw in a cup for dropping a grand this time of year for older stock.

hey, ive used both the rx5 and the rbk 6k, i sold my 6ks after 3 uses i dislocated my knee because, when you butterfly your knee slides down into the crack between the knee block and the Schinn gaurds. Not to mention the 6k's are only a butterfly style pad, i used the reflex series through out my senior year of high school as a starting goalie, if you take care of your pads then they are completely fine, the only problem after practicing two hours a day, is that my right knee block has come unstiched. The blocker for the rx5 is as good as any ive ever used but use a different glove, if your looking for an awesome glove get the brians zero g off players bench its 389$ but if u get the blocker rx5 it will be under the 500 dollars for the gloves. My zero g blocker is amazing. I use a beast C/A and it was great but old now and go with the vaughn 7500 helmet, or the envy 7 you wana protect the squash. you can get a nice itech rx9 c/a for like 180 on GM and you can get nice pro pants for under 100 dollars make sure you check the clearance outlet.

I wish you the best of luck with your choice but in my eyes, rx5 all the way.

Also the vapor XXX skates are on clearance its around 240 for the whole thing

I'm not so sure about that 1400 recommendation. I have been playing with one until a couple of weeks ago, and they do seem to handle direct shots to the mask or crown OK. However, shots that hit the side of the helmet even at an angle (often from your own guys during warmup or practice) or elbows to the side of the head during those let's-all-crash-the-net parties really hurt. Turns out the CSA certification does not simulate those.

This current thread includes some good facts regarding the certification process, mixed in with many opinions regarding various helmets:
Health Canada Comes Down Hard on Non-CSA Masks/Helmets

I now have a Hackva and would highly recommend it.

HECC cert link: HECC.net - The Hockey Equipment Certification Council Inc. Note that the impact test simulates a fall to the ice.

Get the 6ks $100 (keep em for as long as they last save up some money then get 9ks $600) then your gunna wanna get ds ul5 glove set $405 then either get a itech 1400 or an envy 7 mask (app. $300) so that leaves you $200 for everything else unless you get the 1400 mask then your going to have about $350 left for everything else not bad.

Btw the if your just starting out the envy 7 mask is not really nessasry but it is a great mask

You just made a great argument for getting a BETTER quality mask like the Hackva or at the very very least the Nv7. Never know what kind of shooters will show up at skate and shoot or pickup so be well protected. Maybe it will be all ankle benders, or maybe you'll get nailed with a cannon from that one 40yr old guy who cant skate for ****, but can fire the biscuit like nobodys business! Hey its your head though. Please just do a little research and some searches on the itech 1200/1400 and even 2000 series masks. Also consider that shots are not the only thing the mask is there to protect you against. Sooner or later, that 330 lb d man IS going to end up on your head in a scrum. Oh, and you WILL end up getting run when you're down and your mask will meet the post.
The Envy or the Hackva are solid choices (my nod goes to the Hackva).

According to your list, you are going for all new gear. You should consider e bay and the classifieds. You will get a far better bang for your buck buying slightly used pro gear then brand new senior gear. Even used pro stuf will last longer and be of better quality then new senior gear.
Here's my list from when I first started, bought from the classifieds, ebay, and Dukes. As you can see, by getting a few pieces used and searching for deals, you can get a lot better value for your $$.
Battram gloves, classifieds $250
Helite Z pads, GM $250
Promasque Graphite, (new) ebay $200
McKenney 850 pro CA (new) Dukes $280
Brians Pants, classified $50
852 Tacks skates (new) ebay $130
Matrix jock (new!!) $60
Its a little over 1k, but my mask, gloves, cup and CA I started with were all top quality pieces that provided awsome protection for the most important areas.

Last edited by Geoff48 : 07-05-2009 at 10:22 PM. Reason: had to double check the Promasque model
