Toe clips for Vaughn leg pads

My 12 year old son wears Vaughn leg pads with the skate lace for attaching to the skate. The other goalie on his middle school team replaced his skate lace with some sort of a clip that hooks to the toe of the blade and my son is asking for this. Is anyone faniliar with this? Is he better off sticking with the lace and what are the pro's and con's of each?

he is doesnt like them give me a shout i would like to try them.. ive heard bad things about them but they do look like a god idea
