Glove Review: Battram 5002
For those that have read it, I have been fed up with my TPS Ice Cap trapper for some time now. I dropped the bones and got me a new one, a Battram 5002 with cheater bar. No other mods.
Ordering: Wow, this was easy. Scott is very informative, as I have talked with him in the past about what I should get for gloves and pads. After talking about what I didn't like about the Ice Cap, he gave me his recommendation and I went with it. As his order demand was up, it took him a couple of weeks to get to my order. Then it took another two weeks to get to my front door. But I guess that's the rough part about going from Canada to the States. Communication between Scott and Tischa was excellent. E-mails were responded to very quickly and phone contact was very easy. I did end up placing the order over the phone, which went rather smooth. I e-mailed them some pics of what I wanted the graphics to look like on my glove, however, the more I look at it, I probably could have gone with a stock design. All in all, I think the transaction went very well and am very pleased with customer relations.
At First Glance: Because of my total dislike for my current glove, I couldn't wait for the 5002 to arrive at my house. However, I tried to stay open minded when trying it on for the first time, that way, I wasn't completely star struck. The first thing I noticed is the hand strapping system. It's probably a standard system for most gloves, but I had been using the Ice Cap with the internal glove, so this was a big difference. I automatically felt my hand was more a part of my glove than ever before. When I closed the glove, I could feel the difference in the break, as this was a more "traditional" glove break. It didn't feel like my fingers were slipping out of the glove, as they did in the other. Closure was still a little stiff, but hey, it's new and I half expected that. Now, I just needed to get it on the ice.
First Performance: Well, it took me a month, because I was working on my forward game for a tournament that I ended up not going to, but I finally got a chance to get out there and try this baby out. I got all geared up and got ready for my warmup when I noticed it. This glove is wicked light, it was amazing. Again, closer was a little stiff, so I had to work on that. Unfortunately, I didn't get much action on the glove side. It must have intimidated the other guys. I did have one pop-out, but I account that to the newness of the glove. This is the first glove that I have played with that had a cheater bar. However, I also noticed that they ergonomics of the glove were a bit different. I did take a shot to the thub portion of the glove. On my other glove, it would have spun my hand the puck would have went up in the air behind me, sometimes finding the back of the net. Not this glove. The puck hit and was redirected straight to the ice to where I was able to see it and cover it up immediately. I also saw a screened redirection on a shot from the point. Shot came in on the ice, hit the center's stick, and hit my stick, and went right into the glove. The glove closed instinctively (on my part), and the puck was lost in the pocket, which is rather deep. The interior of the glove is going to take a little getting used to. There are two adjusting straps for the thumb and pinky on the inside of the glove. I am still messing with those to find the right fit. There is also a void where the glove is not touching my palm. That may be attributed to my thumb position in the glove, it might not. I may be something I will have to get used to. Right now, I am still "wicker jigging" with it so I'll see where it takes me. Thus far, I am very pleased with the product and it's performance.
In Closing: I know people don't like seeing reviews of stuff right out of the box, so I will keep you updated as to how the glove is performing. There is about a month left in the season. The glove should be well broken in by then and I will give a one month review then. I am really just impressed as to how, out of the box, this glove supercedes my TPS Ice Cap that I have had for 3 years now. I don't want to say this is my favorite piece of equipment, but it is climbing up the list fast.

5K Trapper
Crazyd,
I had a Lousville Flexor Glove for the longest time. I always thought that the Glove was a Great Glove until I ordered a 5K Trapper from Battram. Now, in retrospect, I wouldn't even waste my time spitting on the Louisville.
One Important late season game, Scores tied, 2 minutes to go in the third period, Shot from the point, screen in front, the Puck popped outta my Lville Flexor and landed right on an opponents stick. Needless to say, I have Never forgotten that one,... Ohhhh the Poor Playability of that Damn Glove !
I Love my Cyclone Combo; Moreover, I can't wait for Incinerators !
LOL,
FritZ

Sadly, the guys that I was playing hockey with basically said that my goaltending services were no longer needed. I was welcomed to skate forward, but, for me, it's a consolation prize. Consider that I didn't play goal for a month and on my return, I played equal to the goalie that they were keeping to play in my place. I believe I either tied or beat him by a goal in that one showing. That was the one and only time I played goal after my initial "porking" 2 months ago. I won't be returning to the ice any more this season. I don't know what my status is for next season, as that will depend on several factors. As a result, I won't be able to give an updated review of my new glove, much beyond the first use that I have. If I knew this was going to happen, I wouldn't have dropped $300 on the thing. Not that I don't like it, but what's the point if I may not be playing again? *shrug* Stupid hockey players. And it's a drop-in team to boot. I think that's what makes it even more rediculous. *shakes head* What a way to end a season, huh? New glove in my bag that I can't even use. So, sorry for wasting everyone's time.

not related to your glove
Hey i know how you feel man,
I went to japan for 2 weeks and when i came back the group i was playing didnt need my services anymore cuz they filled my spot. I had to basically ask to play.
that all changed after a few months now and now i have 3 groups crying and crawling on their knees for my services.
its the way it goes. some stupid hockey players think that a goalie can play with them forever, but most have other things to do and stuff, and in the end they regret letting go their regular keeper.
now i pick and choose whenever i feel like it.
MAX POWA *feels the energy coursing through his vains as he lets out a maddening laugh drunk with power*

Having had used this glove, I was going to post a review, I thought why not tack mine on here? Hope you don't mind Crazyd.
I got the glove after a situation and a trade. I'll not say more on this.
The glove is very solid. It has a bit more weight to it than the other gloves I 've used however, it is not a hinderance.
It is a larger glove than I'm used to. I find myself getting saves on things I perhaps might not have. It's an interesting debate... smaller lighter glove vs a larger glove...
The neoprene that separates the fingers is too close for me. That is not Scott's fault. He didn't know about my small hands. With that in mind, I cannot close the wrist srap as tight as I was used to. I must admit, I'm not sure this is a negative. It seems that the weave is a bit more slippery on catching the puck. This is ny first catch with the face in all weave and this is my experience. Anyone else notice this?
Okay, off of the petty gripes and on to the raves...
The break is nice and was essentially game ready out of the box. Popouts are gone. It is very protective. The thumb is quite beefy. It opens up very well for drying. I haven't had problems puckhandling and I've been trying some different patterns as well. The cheater is perfect. I love the material in the back of the hand, which is also protective.
I would buy from Battram again. It was nice to see someone take a chance that you are who you say you are and they send you a glove to look at. The only other person who did that for me was Dave Agatone back in the VK1 days.
