Oh, yeah, I definitely have neck protection. I wouldn't step out onto the ice without it. I have a thick, CCM/Heaton neck protector that has reinforced plastic in it and is covered by ballistic nylon. It's big, fugly, and makes me sweat like a bitch, but it provides very good neck protection. Also, I wear a Cooper GL 100 face cage with a steel dangler. Beat that, Lexan!

Haha, it very well could've come from a knight's armor. If those things could protect against huge axes and swords, surely a measly little puck would pose it no problem!

Vaughn after market upgrade
I emailed Vaughn. They said they would do more side protection ala the 7000, or Speedwings Epic (see link) for $45US.

Chester, could you get me more information on how to get this additional protection from Vaughn for my 3700? I would glady pay $45 for the additional rib protection. Thanks.

Heh. There's this one forward on my team who doesn't wear any type of face shield or anything. I was talking to my captain one time about him, and I told him that this guy was really brave. The captain looked at me, and said: "You don't have to pretend that he's brave. You can say it: he's as dumb as a bag of pucks for not wearing anything to protect his face!" LOL

Wow, that seems pretty cheap for that upgrade from Vaughn. I might have it done, but I'm not sure why.
I have never been hit in the side of my ribcage. Maybe I'm always square, maybe I'm lucky.
Hopefully square.

Negative review
Well, im gonna burst a bit of a bubble here.
I went to a standard Friday pickup with my 3700 chest. I usually wear the 3700 in my lesser leagues or pickup. Unfortunately, somebody with a shot showed up. This guy also felt its better to put a puck through the goalie from 7 feet than around them. Took quite a few stingers. Left my catching arm tingly at bruised right in the fold of the arm. Nice small bruise dead middle of my flabby belly (this could be also just from flab-Flab does mark up better than muscle).
I will say, that with my throat collar, the clavicle shots and shoulder shots were easily shrugged off.
So, for a price point chest, it works well in all aspects except for "A" players.

Hey Chester,
I'm wondering if your 3700 has the modification from Vaughn put on it (the one with the extended rib protection that you told us about), and if so, do you think that the extra rib protection is still worth getting, even if you got a bruise from a puck? Thanks...

hello,
i just wanted to let all my fellow U.S goalies know that i called vaughn usa a few minutes ago to inquire about having mod done on the 3700. specifically like one poster said about the rib area. i was told that "this is an internationally imported product, therefore vaughn can not do any type of modifictiona on the unit.
just want to share this with everyone.

Perhaps the Vaughn rep was confused and thought you meant you wanted to order the 3700 with the extra rib protection already added?

hey royfan33,
so can you explain to me like im a 2 yr old b/c my brain is really fried. how i understood it was that you can get the 3700 with the rib mod added to the c/a like the velocity and 8000 come with as standard for an additional $45.
what i told the rep was that i wanted to order the c/a through my local pro shop but i wanted this mod done on the c/a so should i tell the pro shop that i spoke to someone at vaughn and they (pro shop) should speak to the same person to get the order right. thats when she gave me the response that i posted.
let me know b/c this is how i understood it from an earlier post when this type of mod could be done for the additional price.
