Still using mine 3 - 4 times a week. Sure it gets softer when it's wet (I've never had a C/A that doesn't) but I set it out to dry after each ice time which helps it to retain some rigidity. I'm not feeling shots as a result of it getting softer though.

Check the classifieds for the red 5500, if you're interested, BTW.

It's not getting softer so to say.. its more like, maybe the foam's compressing?

i dont really know, but i've been playing pick up approx 4-5 times a week on the avg. and wrist shots from junior players hurt. that doesn't even mention the dead arms i get with slapshots.

i'm still sort of happy withthe product.. but vaughn really has not been the best company for me, ever.

WoW this thing sounds pretty sweet for the price, I'm going to go to my local shop tomorrow and check this baby out in person; as I'm in desperate need of a new c/a but since I'm a full-time student I have a budget !! With Junior A try-outs ahead I may have to splurge for a higher end Vaughn. But this B.B. has made me think twice about spending big bucks. Put in your opinions (to those who have it) would it be a good cost-efficeint c/a for Junoir A try-outs ? Just from reading some of the stuff sounds like it'd get the job done...But then I don't want to risk spending money and being let down.

Well, Oogs, I still totally disagree with you. BTW, it seems like you're in a very small minority who have had a negative experience with the C/A.

And I did get an opportunity to use an Itech 8.8 once and liked several things about it, namely the flexibility and shoulder protection. I did take one seemingly harmless shot to the ribs that hurt though, which is why I steered clear of it.

Wall: In all honesty, do not use this c/a if you're going to be playing with Jr players. It's a good c/a for the price, but it will not stand up at the Jr ranks.

If you're on a budget, get the top end Mckenney unit. It's a pro unit with as much protection as the top end units from Vaughn, Koho, et. al. but it only runs about $280 USD.

Thanks for the replies, lol but i kinda threw my budget out the window. And ended up getting a brand new Miller CM9, $454.something w/ taxes (canadian of course). And WOW huge protectior, a bit heavy but I don't think I'd feel a medicine ball through this thing !! I was looking at the mckenney, but w/ miller only a half hour drive I had to make sure I got something that fitted perfectly and I did

Sorry Goose, im with oogs here. The 3700 is a good price point chest, but its not nearly the protection one needs for more than 1/2 strength beer league.

Wall: Good choice. You cannot go wrong with Miller products. I have a CM9 trapper that's 4 years old and still going strong.

I'm with Goose. When the local NHLers were short a goalie, I was in with my 3700, and it stood up well to some nasty shots. I felt them and there were a few stingers, yes, but I didn't feel unsafe in the slightest.

A year after this thread's last post, I've gone and done something a bit silly. Despite the fact that my 3700 is still in fantastic shape and protecting as well as ever, I have a 2006 model on the way. I've gotten used to making a certain blocker side save selection that allows me to trap the puck between my wrist and the blocker board, but it also exposes a place right on the cap of my shoulder and I've gotten popped there a number of times...so of course that means that I should update my beloved 3700 .

I'll post a review of the new model and offer a hands-on picture comparison of the differences when I receive it.
