Review CCM HS 8 goal stick Kolzig pattern

I did a search, and did not find any reviews, just comments about the stick.

This model is the HS 8 PRO Kolzig pattern (Left 25" x 15" x 55.5").

Notes:
The stick is very well balanced.
I have had no problems stick handling.
I have had no vibrations from hard shots.
The shaft had a better feel to it. (On other sticks, I have had to sand down the shaft to get rid of bumps and left over resin.)
So far the quality has been very good - after about 10 games.
I am tall (6"2) and find this a good fit for my size.

The only complaint would be about the price - about $65 US.

I bought some CCM HS 8's but they didnt say "kolzig" on them, and they where 65 dollars a piece. So, im thinking they where kolzig pattern, but they just didnt stamp his name on them.

Currently there are two models. Brodeur and Kolzig. The Kolzig is a little shorter on the paddle.

Flip, I'm currently playing with the exact same stick as you. I ended up paying $65 for it as well. I've had it for about two weeks and nine ice times and it's been holding up pretty well.

I used to use the Heaton 5 Kolzig, as a matter of fact, I found 2 brand new ones in my garage along with 2 brand new Sherwood GG20's the other day. Can anyone tell me if the CCM is the same stick as the Heaton?

According to the CCM website these are the following patterns:

CCM HS 8 Pro: Brodeur, Kolzig, Heel Curve, Mid Open Curve

CCM HS 8 Sr: Kolzig

I found Brodeur, Kolzig and Mid Open Curve in a local shop. I went with the Sr Kolzig.

As I understand it, most companies that manufacture goal sticks now label them with a pro goalie's pattern, instead of actually describing them in terms of lie, curve, length, etc.

The only reason why I'd imagine they would do this is so that people can associate with their favorite pro goalie. But this seems to be like a horrible way to select a goalie stick... or at the least, it makes it a whole lot less convenient to determine a stick's exact measurements.

Anyone know why this is?

I used to use the good old Helite-4 6100 Brodeur (the black ones). Sure, the shafts broke, but they were very light and they lasted long enough. I had bad luck with the replacement Helite-4 6200 (light brown ones). They were heavier, and the blades prematurely split in the middle of the curve on 2 of them.

I currently use the Helite-8 heel curve. They're ok so far. Again, not as light, but they work. Only bad thing I've noticed is that the shafts seem to give splinters moreso than the other models.

I'm hoping Maltese comes out with a right curve on their graphite model.

I think Louisville does a decent job on their website of describing the curve specs of their pro named patterns. For example:

CB (Billington):
3/4" Scoop
56" Long, 26" Paddle
Rocker Heel
Closed Face
Lie 14

DHH (Hasek Heel):
3/4" Deep Heel
56" Long, 26" Paddle
Rocker Heel
Open Face
Lie 14

Granted, these terms aren't very well standardized across the industry but at least you can compare within their brand. I wish other brands were at least that thorough.

PS I din't buy the Kolzig because of the name. I compared the length and tossed the Brodeur, then shot a dozen pucks with each of the other two and chose the one that "handled" better.
