Fusion 2000 Mask

Last night I tried out my new Fusion 2000 Mask (adult) and very pleased
Paid $225 cdn + tax in Ottawa. Color is Black Pearl. Basically black with white specks that make the helmet look very dark grey.

So far, very nice craftsmanship. Full Kevlar in the 2000 mask (the 1000 has key spot area Kevlar). Straps are easy to adjust, chin cup fits comfortable, Ventilation is excellent, forehead sweatband works great, the helmet dampens the noise in the arena a little (I actually liked it). The cheek padding is soft and moulds to your face. Visibility was excellent, no issues at all. Gave me a very comfortable and confident feeling. Do not seem to need a dangler, chin of helmet seems to go nice and low and when I look down, seems to fit nice on the chest protector.

It took 5 minutes into the game to get the first slap shot to the head, hit the cage where it meets the shell. Did not feel it at much at all, just heard it. No mark on the shell or the cage. Very impressed.

I will Update more on the durability as the season goes on. I tried on almost every brand and the Fusion is the only one that went on and right away fit almost perfect with only a few minor strap adjustments.

Hey Mike, I got a Fusion 2000 last month as well and am very happy with it. Did not get as good a deal, but what the heck its only money.
I just got back into goal after some years off, and have been using a ****** (i think thats how you spell it ) mask i picked up of the 'Bay, and it was less than stellar. After reading the comments here about the overall importance of equipment, updating the mask seemed a no brainer!
I love the cage - after the first couple of minutes it just was not an issue, and the mask fits my pumpkin perfectly. Its night and day from the old crapper. I would be happy to recommend it to anyone, although the shots I face are on the whole non life threatening.
If I have any reason to change my mind I will be sure to send an update.

Hey everyone.

I'm resurrecting this thread because I'm interested in buying one. Can anyone comment on the quality/protection level of this mask?

In my ongoing search for a mask, I came across these at the store and am looking for more info. Never heard of them until last night!

Thanks!

I have owned two Fusion masks ...one spot kevlar with a cateye, and the other full kevlar with a cert cage. In my opinion, and it's just my own opinion, it's a pretty good mask for the money.

My Positives
+ Inexpensive full kevlar version (relative to competition)
+ Very comfortable foams
+ Dual density foam in all the right places for extra protection (e.g. forehead)
+ Very large facial opening for great visibility (although it can be a negative if you like the look of a smaller facial opening that doesn't show the lower part of your mouth, e.g. Brodeur's mask)
+ Cages are very strong (hit many times, never a dent or busted weld)
+ Good size chin drop for above-average neck coverage.

My Negatives
- "Fit and finish" can be a little bit sloppy (excess glue, imprecisely cut and affixed foams, etc.) versus the higher production run mask manufacturers (e.g. Eddy, Sportmask, Itech, etc.)
- Fibreglass hand laying and hand cutting process can result in slightly misaligned holes (I took one back because I realized after the fact that the facial hole was a half-inch further to the right side of the mask than the left).

My advice is to check out a bunch of Fusion masks in person, and look very closely at the fit and finish of the masks ...choose the one that fits you best (of course), but also has been cut and finished the nicest. None of them will be perfect. This is not a mass-produced, assembly line -type mask, but one that is hand made in small batches.

I have had a full kevlar since March and have taken a few shots off the forehead without even scratching the paint. The mask fit awsome right away and feels great to wear. The sound of the puck was actually quieter than I have had with other masks. All in all I love it.

Fusion mask

I bought a Fusion 2000 mask off of the board (Used 3 times). Not a bad mask. I have taken some nasty shots and its held up for the most part. I would buy another one with out hesitation.

15 months old

Well after 15 months and maybe 150+ games, I still think this is a great mask.
There are a few issues with new ones for the finish inside but look at as many as you can and find the best built one there is... but buy one. They are great. If you have any issues like glue or foam after purchase, fusion will send you what you need. Customer service is excellent. I intend to keep mine for along time and when time to replace, i will pick up another... unless that new ITECH comes down in price ! Anyways. Fusion seems to work well for me in comfort, noise level, lack of scratches or damage from a lot of puck to the head (if I can't make it across the net with I like to stop it with the head.. its part of my confidence in the product

I'm very picky with my masks...

I did like my first Fusion with spot kevlar and a cat-eye cage, but then decided to replace it with a safer full kevlar csa cage Fusion model. I ultimately wasn't happy with the fit and finish of the replacement mask though. The mold seemed to be somewhat misshapen, the cage placement and facial window were both a bit off, and the mask fiberglass thickness was inconsistent and quite thin in places. Someone not so picky would have probably enjoyed playing with it for a long time, no problem, but I decided to try something different ...and then bounced around from mask to mask for a while.

I bought an NXI Phantom, which I personally found to be too flimsy for my liking, and the one-size-fits-all size of it was ultimately a bit too small for my head.

I sold that and bought an Itech 4600, which I very much enjoyed using. The fit and finish and protection were excellent. However, the poor visibility and flimsiness of the carbon steel cage, as well as only having spot vs. full kevlar concerned me over time, and so...

I sold that and bought a Hackva 2608. which I also enjoyed using ...Definitely a better mask than the Fusion, NXI or 4600 in terms of having better sight lines (even for a csa cage), materials (full kevlar and carbon), and fit (custom fit from Gabe himself). It's priced around the same as all the other masks above. Like the Fusion, though, the Hackva is a handmade, non-assembly line mask, so the finish can be a little sloppy ...i.e. the cage and foams can be a bit askew, etc.

The Hackva's unfortunately not the end of my mask story ...I moved up a few divisions to face some much harder shooters ...and also coincidentally ran across a mint Itech 9601 for less than the cost of a Hackva ...so I switched again.

It was tough choosing the 9601 over the Hackva, actually, and I really only did so based on the nicer Itech fit and finish. Despite the Hackva having carbon and kevlar, I found the 9601 to be much sturdier and of better construction ...but that's what you get from a (normally) $700-1000 pro-quality mask.

So, in conclusion, I'm not so much of a fan of Fusions and NXI's, but would rather fully endorse Hackvas at their $300-350 price point ...but if you can get your hands on a $1000 mask for cheap, and it satisfies all your needs ...go for it!

I've had a Fusion 2000 for about 3 years now, and I am very happy with the mask. I've taken some pretty hard shots off the melon. with no problems. I currently have the standard CSA cage, but it does have a couple of dents in it. I am considering buying the CSA cat eye (HRC 4000 CSA PRO) cage for it, that is shown here:

Fusion Masks parts are all high quality replacement parts

My question is, has anyone tried this cage, and what are your thoughts on it? Better vision, worse, no difference?

I would like to use a standard cat eye, but I don't feel it is worth the risk, plus many of the leagues that I play in require a CSA approved cage anyway.
