Thumbs up Battram CA

Hello Everyone,
As most of you know i have been traveling down the CA road of hell.
I have gone thru a lot of CA's in the last year looking for the perfect one.
My beloved miller CA9 I sold due to being a xl and i needed a Large.
And ever since i have regretted it.. i should have just tried to mod it to fit better.
But the search i believe is finally over.. The Battram CA is just as protective as miller was.. but without the bulk.

It is by far the best CA i have used. And i have had the pro-return stuff and brand new R8.
It is lightweight, extremely protective and not bulky.
First off the quality is perfect not a stich out of place.
the feel is good, not stiff even though it is brand new.
And it is more protective than any other CA i have used.
Now, i have not owned a Brown CA but did try on the 2100 and this CA is the only one i could compare it to for feel.

It is simply a great CA. I scored this one when a goalie purchased it and decided to retire.. so it is brand new. he was also 5-10 so it fits me well.
he asked for a bit higher neck guard and rib protection both mods are working great. It took a little strap adjusting to get the CA just right but now that i have it dialed in the neck guard doesnt come up too high and is just perfect.

I plan to make no mods to the CA at this time it is just perfect.
But i do have my new Battramize Maltese Combo coming in anyday now so the neck guard would be just over kill. Therefore i may remove it.
Of course pics and review of the new combo when it arrives.

Scott was great to work with at Battram.. even though it wasnt a new direct buy from him.. He answered all my questions about the CA.. Date built.. mods etc.
Scott is really a great asset to the goalie world.

On to the pics.
Cheers
Jim

do you think it is more protective than your old r8? Also just wondering why you got rid of the pro return?

Its a really protective unit. I scored one from a guy who's son out grew his in one summer. Kid never really used it, was waiting for fall training camp, a BAM! growth spurt.

I find the arm elbow floaters a tad big. Talked with Scott and he recommended i cut out the soft silver foam under the shoulder floaters to make it more mobile. I can now snap on my mask without straining to put my arms up.

Still, some of the jerseys i have dont fit over the elbows.

Koho,
Priceless! no i really think i found the one. The only thing i would consider selling this CA for is a Brown 2200. And this CA is so good i dont see any reason to.
It is comparable to the Brown without the wallet bite.

Chester,
So far no cutting needed i have no issues with arm flexibility at all.
I was considering the Chakal (cut the extra foam) that you mention but so
far no need. and I am not cutting this CA unless i have a definite need.

Flyer,
The only issue i had with the R8 was the belly area. On the Battram
no stingers or brusing. This Battram is simply a tank but without the bulk.

I owned Toskala's Vaughn Pro return. It was super mobile .. but it lacked protection in the bicep area. I couldnt believe i was getting puck tattoo's almost every game.

... the search is over? I'll believe it when you've had the c/a for several months

If you somehow end up selling it, I call dibs!

when you get that battramized maltese combo please post the pics. looks like a great unit. I think you should definitely ditch the units neck protector when that thing makes its way to you. I think the ability for a neck and clav protector to move with you and not your c/a is a dramatic advantage and wearing both is uncomfortable and too much.

Dr plywood,
well see i will post the pics the minute it arrives .but right now i have a DR combo
and it fits and works well with the CA.
This CA is extremely comfortable and not as stiff as i thought it would be for being brand new.. it will only get better as it breaks in.

The neck guard is a bit higher than stock
but nothing major. i will only remove the CA neckguard if absolutely necessary.
because right now it doesnt bother me at all and over kill in this are is a good thing.
But with the new combo i know it can be removed with no worries
the best part about this CA is my game. when its on i forget about it and just focus on the puck and the task at hand.
the guys on team are like what the heck are you doing with all these CA's..

cheers
Jim

Jim,

Congrats on the new C/A working out great so far. I'm having a similar experiance with the pro-return Vaughn you sold me. I think I solved the bicep stingers by not having biceps in the first place! Best of luck with the Battram and I'm glad you like it. There would have been a bit of guilt on my part if that one didn't work out for you either...

I'm slow.

Just for the record, you've sent the Combo we made (we DID make one for you, right? Told you I was slow) you to Battram?

Hi Phil,
Yes i sent my Maltese combo off to Scott at Battram.
He Battramized it and its now enroute back to me..
I cant wait.. pics will follow it maybe here tomorrow.

The collar cover is made of neoprine (wetsuit) material and combo part was
widened and lengthen a bit and foam added for greater protection.

Basically taking a great combo and making it a great great combo.

cheers
Jim

update

After a few weeks of use. And 2 goalie clinic sessions.
It is the keeper.

Tonight we had some shooters.. i mean real shooter.
First 5 mins in my Christian stick.. near new used only a month or so. Was simply
cut in half.. the blade went flying and i was left holding the handle.
These guys could shoot.

Not one stinger.. no bruises.. One caught me up high in the sterenum area.
The shooter asked if he tagged me.. i said no.. the CA didnt leave any neck opening.. like many others I have used.
I cant praise this CA enough. It is just great to be finally able to go out and face any level of shooter without CA failure.

Also tonight we did some passing drills.. no mobilty problems at all..

this CA i give 10 out 10.
