I will have to come up with a good excuse...although I'm buying her a nice closet organizer, so I'll say this is my "reward" for being a good husband. Failing that, since the 993 is a good price I can tell her that selling the Brown will almost offset the cost...
I have been "Jim-like" in my CA search...I used a DR tank for about 10 years and decided I deserved something new. I picked up a Heaton 5 and decided it was too short, got a Brians Air 51 and got big-time shoulder stingers, found a used 5500 and used it for 2 years, then a used Air 51 to modify, then found the Brown on sale, and now the 993.
I have a problem.
(Now I just need to solve my glove problems...but thats another thread).

Just don't tell her you got the CA, and got her a nice vacuum or set of pots and pans. That will haunt you for years and years, like it is haunting me now...

The closet organizer is something she really wants, so I'm covered there. I believe I learned one thing from my dad...don't give your wife a toaster for an anniversary gift.
Anyway, my CA showed up today...looks the same as Jims, so no reason to post pics. Now I need the wife to go to bed early so I can try it on (I had it shipped to my office, but figured wearing a CA in an office setting may not be in my best interest) and fool around with all the adjustments.
It feels a little stiffer than I was expecting, but it is significantly less bulky than the Brown 2000. I'm actually looking forward to feeling the puck again and maybe even getting a bruise...I realized I'm not a bomb-proof CA type of goalie.

Just tell her you don't like playing in wet gear the next day or 2 games in a row. Worked for me. I've got a Brown 553 and a 992 with the extra shoulder sections for 993.

Just ordered an M3 C/A a few moments ago -- I'm playing at approx. juniors level right now so I needed more than a vaughn 3700. Should be here Wednesday or Thursday!

update
The PM,
Nice!
I just got in from a game, it felt good no issues once the puck dropped.
I had a good one in the arm during warmups.. no sting/pain.
The only adjustment i need to make is to lower it alittle, at home in the mirror i adjusted it up a little too high. so a quick easy fix, just adjust the two back straps a 1-1/2.
So, next ice it should be perfect. i did get a nice shot away with it. No arm mobilty issues. i took a good hard shot to the other teams blue line.
No mask issues at all. the extra shoulder protection i didnt even notice. Again, once the puck dropped i totally forgot i had a new CA on. I was sort of worried with a new CA if i would have any issues looking behind the net or down at my feet. No issues at all.
This CA worked out really well.. and here's the best part.. did a double pad to the left.. NO shoulder pain. none.. that for me speaks volumes..
Cheers
Jim

Good to hear. And the M3 is slightly beefier/larger for the angles. I have 3 ice times between now and when it should arrive, I almost wanted to pay for overnight shipping but couldn't justify that much extra cash.

Your C/A
I was considering a 993 C/A, but I may go with the M3 C/A. Their cost is very low on very well made C/A's.
I have purchased 2 sets of pads from them, 1 blocker, pants, and 2 trappers. I have had only minor issues with their products, and these were resolved with 1 phone call- and NO HASSLE. How many manufacturers would let you wear a set of pads for 2/3 games and return them for another new set because they "felt a little to high in the thigh area"?
Now I may be labeled as being bias to DS, but I've purchased gear (LOTS OF GEAR!!) from the other guys (Smith, Battram, and Vortek).
DS is a decent company to deal with.
....I can't wait to get my new smith blocker and vk5 glove.....

I believe I was speaking to Rob and he was slightly concerned about the size of my C/A due to my slender build. We agreed on a medium size, but he said that if I had any issues whatsoever he'd take care of it and get me another size.
Just to note: This is the first time I've ever dealt with them and I'll be sure to write a thorough review with lots of pics to show to what degree of quality it is built at.

Hey, looking as if i need to upgrade to pro spec for this year. Anyone playing Junoir A or above wear this unit and have any comments on it? I might just go pro spec Epic but if i can save some cash on a unit that is just as good i may as well. Any comments?

Well, it finally came. Showed up at 6PM after I'd given up hope on it arriving today. I'll get on the ice with it tomorrow, but first impressions is that this thing is a tank and is definitely well-built.
Posting in here since Jim wanted to see the pictures as well.
Frontal shot
Shot from the back. I've changed a bit of the strapping, but overall that's how it was when I got it.
