Anyone getting any pain with shots to the forearm? Nothing has bruised, but I have had some stingers with shots directly to the forearms.

I took a screen shot to wrist area and it hurt a bit. It was a clapper from the top of the circle on a 5 on 3 penalty kill which I didn't see because of the screen. My glove was a bit out of position, and the puck hit under where the cuff of my catcher should have been. No bruising, which surprised me, but I definitely "felt" it.
I've had a bunch of hard shots off just about everywhere now, and no major problems.

I've had my 993 for a few months now, and my opinions really echo what I've read in the thread so far.. I really like this C/A... light, agile and affordable..
The only stingers I've had are on the blocker-side, outside edge of the elbow, but this only started happening recently, so I think the pad shifted slightly and left a tiny gap... nothing a quick mod can't fix up.. Other than that, I can't complain... which is rare..
I haven't had any troubles with stingers around the chest plate, but I think I'm going to reinforce it there anyway...like was so well illustrated here (thanks for that) It'll just take a few spare minutes and then I don't have to worry about a "lucky shot" dropping me to the ice like a sack of rocks and hammers.
I end up modding most of my gear, so I was surprised that I didn't end up altering the 993 much at all, fit well right out of the box. I'm just under 6' 150lbs, and use a size Large. I suspected it might be too short when I ordered it, but it turned out that the length was perfect...
As an aside, I had a good experience with "the-ones-who-we-shall-not-mention" Great customer service.. I would think they would be happy about the favorable reviews on the BB... Advertising and feedback are GOOD things guys

993 C/A is on the way!!
Nice reviews. I've been in the market for a new C/A. I was looking the Xpulse. But when I read your reviews and saw the price...I went ahead and placed an order. I didn't know it came in black. So I'll probably receive a white one.
He said 4 business days. But Friday is a holiday so I might not get it till Monday. That's too bad..I have 2 games this weekend.
Thanks for the great info!!!!

I picked up a 993 C/A about 2 weeks ago, and pretty much everything that has been said before. Very good protection, I actually decided to mod the arms on my unit adding on the same upper arm protection as a CM9, which is the unit I am coming from albeit it was a little bit short. I started my first game with it tucked and by the end I had untucked it, and liked it there more.
I also was sent the unit with the white area that goes up against the chest, later revisions have it as black I guess, but it doesn't make a difference other than sweat stains.
I have found the unit to be hotter than my CM9, of course that could just be because the spongy foam hasn't fully settled yet.

Just played my first two games in mine
I have owned Brown's, Legacy 6000 and am currently playing with an Eagle Monster. The protection of the Monster is the best I have have had so far, by far. However, I think it is a C/A more for positional goalies than agility/mobility goalies. SO I wanted something that was lighter, offered better mobility, and I was even willing to give up a bit of protection to do so.
Before buying the 993, I went out and tried on the Vaughn V3 and Epic 8000...both were extremely flexible right off the bat but more than I wanted to spend. And I find Vaughn is good for skinny guys...but if you are wide shouldered and narrow waisted (i.e. you are more v-shaped, than rectangular shaped) than your upper ribs stick out the sides of the chest pad and you are exposed to upper rib and arm pit injuries for pucks that sneak through between your arm and chest.
I also tried on the 8600, and it felt awesome but I was concerned about the protection at such a low price ($225) so I was spooked to buy it.
I tried on the Nike XXX, but I found the arms too long and the whole thing just too big and rigid and I was scared to but it. I looked at Itech X-Wing and CP Pro, but I have heard too many Q/A issues with these asian made products. I tried on the older Vector and Xpulse model but I found the arms too long and could not put on the gloves.
So then I got my 993 last week and it felt so good right out of the box that I was comfortable playing with it that very night in some high level 3-on-3. This hockey is great to break in stuff because you get about 60-80 shots per game and you cannot help but sweat your bag off in your gear.
First impressions:
Lighter than the Monster
Longer than the Monster...the Monster was not tuckable. I did not tuck the 993 yet because I did not have time to adjust my suspenders and pants to do so.
Much much much more mobile than the Monster. I could take my mask off, I could drink easily, I just had better range of motion.
I could handle the puck better.
My concern was protection and I took 6 -8 hard slappers to the chest and shoulders and I did not feel anything I was not supposed to.
I took a few wristers to the arms, and forearms and felt nothing bad.
So far so good...though I cannot say it was seriously tested. I have a four-day tournament in Laval next week.
For someone who is 5'6" and 165, Medium is good. I shortened the arms to max setting and played with the straps in the back and it sits well. I might have asked for a Medium chest but SHort arms, if they would have been willing.
Next test is to tuck into my new XXX pants and see if it is more/less comfortable and mobile.
Any Montrealers want to see this C/A in person, just PM me.

Anyone here have pics of the collar being cut?

Bumping an old thread, especially now that the 994 is out lol
Well because of that the 993 seems to be on sale. SO I took the plunge and picked up a 993. The price is pretty dorn good. Once I got my hands on it the C/A reminds me of an updated helite III chest. Here is a pic of it after my 1st time using it. Thankfully it was a double header
PIcs of it on right out of the box
1st thing I did is remove the padding under the shoulder floaters, dont like it. The CA seems to fit pretty high. I am debating removing the neck guard. It felt pretty good the 1st time out. Its extremely flexible.

I also see that you did a mod to the head. Nice job...no threads loose, no stitching out of place...cool touch with the yellow
Hope it brings to your game. Keep the III just in case.

get a seam ripper and take that neck guard out.
wear the collar of your liking.
I am yet to see a c/a neck guard that isn't custom that is worth the pain they create, thing is pretty much useless and will only drive you crazy.
Especially if you wear it high like that.
