Non-adjustable arm length? Seems like a non-feature available on low end units. Otherwise this c/a LOOKS nice. Most people are fussy about their c/a so custom is a great way to go. I would consider trying this c/a out based on this review and pics. Congrats on your purchase.

I think its more then large enough but I'm used to a very free flowing Heaton 5. Its very protective. On par with my H5 when brand new. I did notice the arms are not adjustable. They are totally sewn into the unit. They are VERY long it seems. I'm 6'3" and I don't have the monkey arms to use this. I am thinking about bringing the chest protector to a shoe maker to have him cut 3" off each arm, Then put some eyelets in and use skate lace to make it adjustable. ( Still this isn't an expense I believe I should have in buying a new piece of equipment. ) Overall. I think this chest protector is great. I'm finicky with my chest protectors.. I always end up modifying them a bit. I might contact Vaughn to see if they will make the adjustments for me. I think someone at the factory forgot that arms on everyone are different and need that part of the pad to be adjustable.
I have an XL V2 chest and the belly pad was the perfect size for me, but the arms were too long like yours. Do what I did... untie the elbow floaters, and underneath you'll find three horizontal seams. I just hand-sewed the top seam to the middle seam on each arm, and then tied the elbow floaters back up. PRESTO, shorter arms. If you need them even shorter, just sew the top seam to the bottom seam (below the middle seam). Piece of cake, and you don't have to sew them pretty, because the job will sit under the elbow floaters ...better to sew them strong with some really good nylon thread. It's a very easy and effective mod to shorten velocity C/A arm lengths.

i tried doing this and found that my chest protector wasnt able to turn with my body when i needed to move my upper body. any suggestions?

Got this for my birthday a week ago from my lovely wife. I guess leaving the name, model and size on the back of a card from the hockey store randomly around the house worked out like I thought it would

It's very comfortable and yes the arms as previously stated are a bit long. They sit sort of right above my wrist. Not long enough to mess with my gloves but about an inch longer then I'd like them. Going to mess with the back and shoulder strapping to see if I can't lift the arms a bit more. It's pretty broken in out of the box but I want it to break the rest of the way in as soon as possible. It just doesn't feel "right" yet. That's probably mainly attributed to me wearing an extremely form fitting and crappy C/A...the Itech prodigy 4.8. That C/A is wickedly comfortable.......until a hard wrist shot winds you ;[. This C/A is so much larger(in the same size) that I actually had to go up a Jersey size..from 56G to 58G. Yet it really doesn't feel that much more bulky. There is no doubt in my mind that once this breaks the rest of the way in it will be extraordinarily comfortable to wear. It's better brand new then the Itech was, and after a few more ice times it is likely to surpass the itech in it's current broken in state.

Ok now that I've used it on the ice I've changed my tune. The C/A is absolutely amazing and all my doubts are completely gone. It takes up a lot of space, in fact 2 jersey sizes of space over my last C/A yet it doesn't feel big. By the second period I basically forgot it wasn't my old really mobile Itech. The protection is outstanding as well, in fact the first really good slapshot I took it took me a split second to realize it had actually nailed me right in the stomache and the puck was sitting in front of my knees.

Nice design by Vaugh, my only lament is I wish the arms could be adjusted an inch..but I'm used to it and I'm not even going to bother getting it shortend.

I'll second the small. I'm 5'10" tall and about 185 pounds with pretty broad shoulders. A medium fits perfectly except the arms could be an inch shorter...but it's not really a hindrance. This is a fairly robust C/A and you would probably swim in a medium. Vaughn actually has a decent sizing chart based on height and wingspan for this C/A. You may want to consult that as well.

2nd that. As I wrote earlier, I went in looking to get the V3 and I'm about your size. I was all set to buy it in a medium. I tried it on, then I decided to try on the Epic as well just to compare it. Then I tried on the smalls on for both. The epic fit me better personally but I would have wound up buying a small in the V3 should that have been my choice. One thing I will say if you're deciding on the V3 or Epic is if you're broader in the shoulders go with the V3. I'm more fine boned and not very broad, and I found the Epic just fit my body better.

I have been through several Vaughn C/As from the 1000 to the 4000 they all seem to have the same issue and I see that Vaughn hasnt changed lol

The arms are always too long. As for the lack of laced in arms they have done that forever. I am sure you could get them to make you a C/A with laced in arms as a custom order.

At least Vaughn always gives you allot of slack in material between the bicep padding and shoulder cap. You can just fold the material there sew it together and boom you have a shorter arm.

You can then undo the stitching when selling it and ther is no damage.
