2200 Brown CA

Guys,
Everyone knows of my desire to find the perfect CA.
I have owned many. Most recently, I own the ******* 993 and the Battram.
Well, like the ******* the Brown came at price to good to be true so, i decided to test drive it.
I have no reason to change the *******. But as i said it was a great deal on the Brown.

Also because i try not to be too much of a gear whore the Battram is sold pending payment as well as the Pro return pants, if they fail thru; then they will go in the classifieds.

Now on to the details.
Is the stock Brown 2200 CA with out the collar option. Size Large.
Out of the box, it has a wow factor,of a legendary Brown product, the nice yellow accents and the blue material on the inside.
First thing i noticed is the weight. Its heavy compared to the 993, it weight about the same as the Battram.

Also, the way its made is different than most CA in the fact that the backpad has and needs no adjustment.
It is attached to the Chest and Arms permanently.

So no adjustment is needed/possible for raising or lowering the neckline or the way the CA sits.
This is actually a good thing. You put the CA on and it fits. No major adjustments are needed. Simply adjust the tightness of the arms to your own liking.

Now, out of the box this thing is stiff, that has been mentioned before that breaking in a new Brown CA is a task.
Well, this one is no different. It fails the beer test. you cant really touch your face too well. The arms really need to be worked in.
It sits well on the body.
And i like how the chest is longer in the front. This feature was also on my TPS R8 and I like the extra few rows of blocks in the lower belly area..

Also, one major issue for me is shoulder protection; for double pad slides and this CA has nice shoulder cups with alot of padding behind it. so i don't foresee a problem but only time will tell.

So some not so meaningful ratings

Quality 10
Out of box very stiff will need break in time.
Ease of Adjustment 10

I will update the review as time goes on.
For reference i am 5-10" and 165lbs and the size Large fits me like a glove.

Here are few pics

Cheers
Jim

Jim my man you will not be disappointed I have a brown the Int model of the 2200 which are identical just mine has one back strap instead of two. Ive yet to feel anything through mine and Ive taken rockets off the stomach and chest. Break in was a pain but it took about a month of solid use no steaming just wearing it at practice now I can take drinks at the net youll love this thing man.

After wearing it around the house. i am sure it will be fine in a few weeks.. right now though . its not ready for a game that for sure. very stiff.. but that is okay because .. its New

I love my 2200. I just used mine for the 2nd time this morning and it doesnt feel stiff at all. I wear it a tad loose in the chest and my mobility is great. Surprisingly this c/a is much cooler than my Itech 8.8.

Visco,

I had one of the first TPS R8 CA's Pro Stock. And I was told that Lundy had input on the design. So I figured this CA would be the keeper.

It had some nice features, the extended belly being one of them .
The problem was the quality. It was made over seas. The seams were not sewn tight enough and i got a major stomach bruise. Also the arms were not sewn properly and one arm was alittle longer than the other.
Needless to say I got rid of it right away.

So the R8 i would recommend for lower level of ice hockey or ball hockey, but only if on clearance.. because its not worth more due to horrible quality.

For those done know I have owned a ******* matrix 2, Miller CA8, TPS R8, Battram, ******* 994, and now this one the Brown 2200.
I get rid of one to get another. In search for the pefect CA.

Cheers
Jim

Jim

Hope your quest has come to an end!

I just ordered a medium JB2200CA from Crows Sports to replace a not-protective-enough-on-the-ribs-and-biceps Vaughn Vault.

I'm 5'9", 165lbs

I wish this will be my C/A at least for the next 4 years.

Thanks for the good review.

That Brown should last 10+ years, they are built like a tank and I have been kicking myself since day one of getting rid of mine.
