Majer hockey service review.

Major hockey currently has a Brian's pro return glove and I wanted some extra pics because they only showed the palm......here is my pissy response....

"This is pro spec sizing , and no I do not have any more pictures.

Thank you."

I guess I should have asked "could you Please, with sugar on top, and a cherry" take some more pics.

This is the second encounter with these guys. Joel is very unpersonable. I ordered some custom equipment, they messed up the order, told me it was due to a "new employee who did not know and is learning but a great guys" fault. I could care less if he is a great guy or not. But when you custom order and pay upfront, they have you. He still made me pay extra to fix the problem.

O well. One less place for me to look into.

I love the small companies like Smith and Battram because they always take the time to answer your questions.

Smith and Battram are manufacturers. Majer Hockey is a retailer. You're comparing apples to cocaine. Something like that.

Regardless, there are two sides to every story, but if your side is the whole truth, that's pretty shoddy services, especially making you pay to fix their mistake. Something doesn't sound right.

Not comparing the two, just saying I like taking to people that help me.

as for the fix, there was some miscommunication because I was talking to someone who did not know goalie equipment. It was a while ago and I got over it.

I've ordered 3 or 4 times from them. Never had a problem, good prices and good service.

Maybe I'm just lucky <shrug>

Majer is about a 10 minute car ride from my office, but I'll go to Dukes, Goalie Crease, Just Hockey or Goalie Heaven before I'll go to this place. They have been given every opportunity, but I still come out of the store shaking my head. At Christmas time I wanted to buy my son some Graf goalie skates. The place wasn't too busy so I waited patiently to be served. After being totally ignored for 20 minutes, I started waving my hands at their employees indicating that I needed some help. Nothing. I finally got pissed off and left.

Another time I went into their goalie section and tried on some Itech Prodigy pads. They seemed pretty good, but there was no one around to give me a price or answer any questions. I left and e-mailed the owner once I got back to work. The content of the e-mail was positive, and I told him what I was willing to pay for these pads based on what prices I had seen in other stores in this area. Nothing. Never heard back from anyone at Majer.

It's hard to figure out because there are so many similar stores in the Toronto area now. The competition for the consumers dollar must be intense, and they ignore someone who is in their store and ready to spend his cash. Hopefully their customer service will improve because they do have a good selection of goalie gear. I think their main focus is on skates however as I have never seen so many pairs of used skates anywhere else in my life!

As I detailed here before, they were selling a used set of pads on the Bay, just didn't bother to note the sizing. (I think their eBay ad scripts are written by ESL students.) When I emailed them to ask if they could just lay a tape measure down the shin and give me the number. I didn't ask them to estimate the actual size, just take a measurement and tell me what it is.

Instead, I get a one sentence reply: "There 33 in". (sic) My, you REALLY want to sell those, don't you?

I purchased my overdrive blades and 3 sticks from Majer Hockey and I had really good experiences ordering from them both times. They even gave me my money back for shipping on the sticks because they did not send me a a tracking number.

I've been to Mayer on two occasions. Both times the employees where preoccupied with themselves.
I said the hell with them and will never step foot in the store for anything again.
Works for me.

I have had hit and miss experiences with these guys. Ordered an Eagle double jock from their ebay store and it took 3 weeks before they could confirm that they had even shipped it. Not real warm responses to questions to the status of my order either.

My most recent purchase was a set of danglers. Those took 6 days to arrive. No problem.

I guess just hope that you catch them on a good day.

I've never had any problems at all with Majer Hockey. I've been there a few times and bought some sticks,a C&A, and pads. All my questions were answered instore and the staff was helpful.

Now another online store I'm trying for the 1st time has kind of brushed me aside. I sent the store a question regarding a pair of pro return pants they have for sale. There was no size listed in the online with them and they answer I got back was they fit a goalie 5'9" 180 lbs, said they maybe XL. Last time I knew you don't call a store looking for goalie pants and say I'm 6'3, 250 pounds send me pants that fit. I answered back that I'm 6'3, 250 lbs, is there a chance they can check the size and make sure there XL or bigger. Answer back was will get someone to try them on and see how they fit. That was Tuesday morning, I've sent since 2 messages back and nothing. When I called the store today to find out about them and the person knew nothing about them because they was no size listed on. I've pretty much giving up hope of buying these pants and dealing with this store again as they seem to think I'm wasting there time.

I don't want to order a pair of pants from some place 2000 miles away and get them only to find out they don't fit. I was kind of hoping to save myself $200 ordering these pants and that I wouldn't have to custom order a pair. Now I'm going to Dukes to order a new custom pair and put the rest of the funds I have for those pants I wanted to get towards the pair of gloves I'm buying from a member here.

There are a couple of guys there who I get along with very well, but Joel really set me back when I was there a while back.

Howie was a guy I knew from Just Hockey, and when I got my BHG Eyewall 5 pads, he asked me to bring them in so I can check them out.

Joel started to carve up the fact that I went with someone else other than him, and dismissed the product as lousy, saying ******* was a better product.

He lost me at that.

But whatever, I choose to go elsewhere because there are choices.

I don't have much to add to this other than I am a big fan of Howie Simon. Regardelss of your experiences with the other staff at Majer, I can say without question that Howie is one of the most, if not the most knowledgable people in the business. I worked with him for a stretch durinng what I would say were Just Hockey's most successful years, and I can say without question that he knows more about the industry than anyone I have ever met.

To add to my previous, Howie is 100% class and customer service.

Never any kind of concern period. Very solid guy!

I don't find them to be very personable. I have met Joel once and he is kind of aloof/rude...certainly not very personable like the guys at The Crease, Heaven or Dukes.

At least a bit of customer courtesy would be nice .

Fabian is just an amazing person to deal with and knowledeable guy at Majer.
I went in there looking for an rbk ps2 pro c/a, but fabian told me it wasnt good because its made overseas and directed me towards a mckenney which was made in canada and 100$ cheaper but unfortunely they only had a large and not medium,he also showed me the differences of how the arms were way more protective on the mckenney. He took the time to call Dukes,Just Hockey,Goalie Heaven, and The Goalie Crease, now that is good service on his behalf.Unfortuneately nowhere in the GTA had a mckenney in a medium and he said he would continue looking for one for me from other shops. That was the first time i was ever at Majer Hockey and I left there with a lasting impression

I regret not buying a c/a from there and i have not bought any gear from there ever but he deffinately has a customer in the future

last but not least i ordered a custom Brown 2200 in a medium from Dukes because i got a great deal but i think Dukes and Majer have some of the best service in the GTA
