So I have done my review on the Steve Passmore blocker for hockey. I had some great times with it on the ice. I have decided to take it to the next level.
I wanted to see how the glove performed for driving. So I used Steve's glove on the way into work today. Conditions were perfect for a fair review, sunny and 50 degrees outside.
Test vehicle: 2004 GMC Envoy
Getting Started:
First problem, it's kinda hard to get a driving review when you can't get the truck started. Gripping the key was made difficult by the generous sideboard. The tapered thumb helped, but the actual blocker surface wouldn't quite fit between the steering wheel and the dashboard.
I made a few attempts but couldn't do it.
My guess is that Steve must drive Saab vehicles that have the ignition on the center console. Or maybe a Porsche? Grade: B
Shifting:
After taking the glove off to start my truck, I put the glove back on to shift gears. No problem here. Infact the blocker felt right at home on the shifter. Possible sign that Steve prefers a manual transmission? The blocker covering my hand gave me more confidence that no matter what hits my hand, the blocker would allow me to keep on shifting without injury. Plus the "Passmore" name is angled right in my view and in the view of any police officer who happenes to be standing at my door.
That Steve, he's got the "no ticket mod". Good move. Problably helps at any drive up place like the bank, mcdonalds or even a toll booth. What better way to drop the fact that you are a pro? I like Steve Passmore that much better... Grade: A
Radio Operation:
Another area that the Eagle blocker dosen't do as well is radio operation. The blocker board makes it damn near impossible to get your hand or fingers on the controls let alone see what you're doing.
I tried a few times with the dash controls and the steering wheel controls with no luck. I actually turned the radio off when the corner of the board catches the power button. I think, maybe this is Steve telling me to focus on driving and turn off the radio. I agree, and focus on driving. Grade: C+
Driving
The actual driving part with the Eagle blocker is not so great. The glove is somewhat difficult to see around and could become an issue when turning the truck due to the board hitting the dash. One good thing is that on straight driving, I can get the blocker up on the top of the wheel and cruise with the "Passmore" name in clear sight. Grade: C
Mirror Adjustment:
Yeah, not happening. The NHL legal size helps, but can't really touch the mirror without hitting the roof. How often do you adjust your mirror anyway? Why would STeve Passmore care who or what is behind him? Renegade factor is high in this score. Grade: B
Wife Factor:
I'm not going to lie here. There was no chance I was going to drive with my Steve Passmore glove on with my wife sitting next to me. Can you imagine me putting my arm behind my wife on the top of the seat with Steve's glove on? The smell alone would cause my wife to bail. Maybe some other married guys would prefer that, not me. Grade: F
Overall:
It's wicked cool to drive with Steve Passmore's glove on. It's almost like he's driving my truck. Way cool but eerie since Steve isn't even in my state. More like dangerous I guess. I get to work with a stinky hand again but I did get here wearing hockey equipment... that is rad.
Overall Score: A
It
is Steve Passmore's blocker....
